Telly hero Karan Grover says fitness is the only mantra he believes
The quintessential lover boy in Zee TV's primetime show, Yahaan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli,Karan Grover, is admittedly a fitness freak. He is often found jogging in the wee hours, sometimes between shootings in the adjoining greens of Mumbai's film city. Talking about it, Karan says fitness is the only mantra he believes in. He begins his day with lots of water, followed by jogging.
"For me fitness is a way of life, being fit and doing something healthy for your body in terms of physical workout should be like brushing your teeth in the morning. The way I don't forget to brush my teeth or dress up, I also don't mess with my fitness regime. At any cost I work out minimum four days a week for an hour," he says.
Karan, before starting his career in acting, trained as a chemical engineer. He later worked as a veejay with Zee Music, hosting shows for the channel and interviewing some of the biggest names in the film industry. He made his small screen debut with Saarrthi on Star Plus. Karan says he loves being physically active, like doing exercises, yoga and sports. "Physical fitness is generally achieved through correct nutrition and exercise. I do every sort of exercise, from functional training to physical training, weight lifting to cardio vascular exercises. Whenever I get time I play badminton. Yoga and meditation are very boring for me but I still do," he says. Staying fit is fun for him, "I enjoy training sessions. It keeps me motivated." He also does kick boxing whenever he gets time which helps built up his physical stamina.
As far as his diet goes, Karan says being a Punjabi, he eats everything. "I don't like to restrict myself. But when I think as an actor I keep a watch on what I eat. When I was a child I was taught butter chicken and butter paneer are the best food for us but as I grew older I realised it may be the best food but not for my body," he says, laughing. So he starts his day with poha, omelette and cornflakes. "For lunch I prefer baingan bharta, roti, chane ki daal, most of the times I take home-cooked food. I don't take sweets after 6 in the evening. Also, by that time I reduce the intake of carbs. For dinner I take pasta, soup or grilled chicken. I try to keep my dinner light, carbs low and protein high." He elaborates, "I don't like street food but a plain dosa is fine for me. My favourite dish is rajma-chawal; I love Italian food, chicken and Punjabi food. A glass of milk is a must for me. My water intake is at least three litres a day."
Karan is happiest when he is working, even if it means long gruelling hours of shooting. "I wish when I reach Sylvester Stallone's age I stay as fit as he is, though I doubt I will have a body like him at his age." Karan asks everyone to never compromise with health and fitness, "With our hectic schedules, it becomes a little difficult to manage our health but innovative methods help us keep fit. I can work for 25 hours a day and yet be ready to shoot for another hour without complaining. It is only because of my fitness, it gives me energy to work for long hours. The only advice I would love to give to everyone is, stay fit, do exercises and don't compromise with your health."
