" This" Jessica Blair said looking around her " Is crazy"
" It most definitely is" Mayi agreed with her sister sighing.
" I mean they swallowed the story that you and my hottie brother in law served them with. I can't see any of them even contemplating on the possibility that the whole thing could be a sham" Jess said looking surprised.
For more than an hour Mayi and Theo had been going through introductions and explanation of how New York's two most known people ended up married. Most people were satisfied by the secret dating story , some where sceptical and some just nodded while their expression said that they didn't believe a word. But right now the whole room was enjoying the food and drinks served while gossiping away. Mayi was glad that she had appeared more confident than she felt. Her dress had attracted many an arched eye brow but she kept her head high. The world would always find fault no matter how perfect you dressed or behaved. Her family and Mandy had approved of her dressing. Theodore , though , he didn't say any thing did not look dissatisfied.
" I don't think most of them believed us Jess. They just don't want to antagonize us or the Sinclair's. After all not many of the elites are known for to the face behaviour" Mayi said
" That's true" Jess conceded " By the way how's married life with hottie" she grinned cheekily.
" Absolutely lovely" Mayi replied with equal cheek. The sisters erupted into laughter.
" How very unladylike " a mockingly serious voice interrupted them.
" Comes from the guy who did not learn to use the fork and knife till he was 15" Jess retorted.
" Why don't you let that go?" Brandon scowled at his sister.
" Why don't you tell us what you are hiding from us?" Mayi shot at him.
Brandon was saved from answering by the arrival of Theodore Sinclair.
" Mind if I interrupt" He smiled at them.
" Not at all brother in law. The lady's were in fact ambushing me" Brandon replied in a jocular tone.
" We were not" Mayi said " Is there any problem?" she directed at Theo.
" None at all. In fact most here are pretty impressed by you Mrs. Sinclair" Theo said with a satisfied smile " I came here to ask your hand in dance , its about to begin"
" Can I have a word with you Theodore? " Brandon asked his expression neutral. "
" Sure" Theodore said , giving him a calculating look. Mayi and Jess exchanged a glance.
" We will be back soon " Brandon said cheerfully while placing a hand on Theo's shoulder. Theodore raised his brows but didn't comment.
" What was that about?" Jess asked.
" If I am correct in interpreting your brother, Jessica, he has gone to warn young Mr. Sinclair to keep his hands off his youngest sister or else the consequences will not be pretty" Victoria Blair said joining her daughters.
" That wasn't necessary mom. You know I will be careful right" Mayi said .
" I know sweetheart but Brandon is just being the protective older brother that he loves to be. He was the one fretting about you the most when you fell sick in your younger years. He loves you both" Veronica gently patted Mayi's hand.
Which is why I am worried Mayi thought to herself.
A few minutes later Theo and Brandon rejoined them. Brandon soon went off after a pretty brunette. Jessica was already dancing with a geekish looking guy. Theodore led Mayi to the dance floor.
" What did Brandon tell you?" Mayi asked as they began dancing.
" The consequences of hurting his sister" Theo replied with a smile " Somethings I would definitely say to the man who wins my sister's heart"
" I apologise if my brother was rude or over bearing. He is used to caring too much for us" Mayi said colouring a little.
" It's nothing to be embarassed about Mayi. Your brother has all rights to worry about you" Theo assured her.
"I know he does. I just want them to be assured that I did this out of my own will" Mayi said
" Surely they don't believe that I coerced you into this?" Theo gave a devious smirk. " Off course they don't Mr. Sinclair" snapped Mayi , her eyes showing anger.
" Ah! How I love that fire in your eyes and words" Theo whispered huskily against her ears making an unnamed sensation sweep through her. Mayi closed her eyes involuntarily.
Theodore's smirk widened. His spit fire wife wasn't quiet as unaffected as she wanted to believe. He would definitely enjoy bristling her. He had tough time through out the evening trying to keep his eyes and hands off her while she had looked completely aloof. He wanted to affect her as much as possible. Slowly his hands moved to rest on her exposed mid riff. The feel of her smooth skin made desire raise its head in him. Theo had to suppress a groan.
At the moment Mayi looked up at him.
" Are you all right?" she asked with genuine concern , seeing his scrunched up face.
" I am fine" Theo snapped in irritation at himself.
" No need to be so hostile Sinclair. I was just showing basic human concern" Mayi replied through pursed lips.
" Mind if I cut in" an accented voice said from behind Theo.
" I dare say I do" Theo turned with a smile " You are completely untrustworthy Orienno"
" Ah! But you do trust your wife Sinclair. So I guess I can have one dance with the lady of the evening" a man with impish grin said to Theo.
Theo bowed his head slightly and placed Mayi's hand in his.
" I will be back soon" he whispered in her ears , intending to be back as soon as possible.
" Mrs. Sinclair I believe we are yet to meet" the man said as he led Mayi in a dance.
" I do know who you are Mr. Daniel Orienno" Mayi smiled graciously at him " You are Theodore's best friend and also owner of this and many other hotels in the Orienno Hotel chain"
" I see but I do not know you Mrs. Sinclair" Daniel grinned at her.
"Well my name is Hiranmayi Sinclair but since that is a mouthful you can call me Mayi for short. As you know I am married to your best friend Theodore and for a job I run the Blair Enterprises" Mayi said
" That is the formal part. How about personal? I would like to know how exactly did my friend manage to find such an excellent replacement to his previous , well for want of better word , witch" Daniel asked.
" What makes you think I am excellent? " Mayi cocked an eye brow.
" For one you easily stood up to Rachel Sinclair which is not an easy task , truth be told" Daniel said , his expression solemn. Mayi could not help her laughter. Daniel joined her.
" She is not that bad you know" Mayi said. " Please don't be modest and ruin my impression of you. Rachel Sinclair can be a horror at times" Daniel said , giving a fake shudder.
Mayi chuckled " I will have to watch my step I guess"
" That you do my lady" Daniel said " Well do you mind telling me who that lady in blue is?" he asked pointing at Jess.
" Planning to hit on her?" Mayi asked with a grin , very much doubting his intention of asking her hand in dance, now.
"Why not? These charms have yet to fail" Daniel pointed at himself.
" Good luck then. That's my sister Jessica and believe me charms alone will never work on her." Mayi said.
" Oh! Then I shall most definitely try" Daniel said " Besides it's time to return you to your husband who I fervently believe is planning to kill me" he was looking over her shoulder , his eyes filled with mirth.
Mayi turned and felt herself freezing with shock.
