Sreejita's scared to step into Sparsh's shoes
Sreejita De's next role is playing teenage Ichchki, taking over from Sparsh Manchandani, in Uttaran. But the actress is worried to take over from an "audience favourite", scared that she won't be able to live up to viewers' expectations.
SREEJITA, the popular Annu of Annu Ki Ho Gayi Waah Bhai Waah (Star One), who was last seen as Roshni in Bandhan Saat Janmon Ka (Colors), will be playing Ichchki next month when Uttaran undergoes a progression.
Sreejita says, "I am very excited but at the same time, I am very scared too. Sparsh, who plays Ichcha now, is excellent in terms of acting. At such a young age, she is so popular and extremely talented. That's why I am scared; she has become an audience favorite!"
Having followed a few episodes of Uttaran, Sreejita is completely impressed by Sparsh's acting. "She's a brilliant actor. I'll have to study her character a lot, especially her mannerisms. She's very innocent and that is clearly reflected in her acting. It will be a very challenging job to portray her character."
The actress only took up the role because it filled certain criteria that she had. She explained, "I was very particular about three things: first that I wanted to do either a Star or Colors show, second was that I wanted to play the lead role and lastly, I wanted to star on a show that had a primetime slot. I got all these things covered with this role; hence I had no reason to say 'no'."
She auditioned for the role of Ichchki but nearly ended up playing Tapasya. Sreejita says, "I auditioned for Ichcha but then they called me and told me that my face resembled Tapasya more. Finally, I am playing Ichcha only."
Talking about Vaishali Thakkar, who plays Ichcha's mother, she says, "She used to play Bharati on Hum Sab Ek Hain. I used to follow the show regularly when I was in Standard 6. I've been her fan ever since then! She's a great actress and I am very obliged to play her onscreen daughter."
Sreejita will start shooting for Uttaran on May 5. Her entry will be telecast after May 10. Rashmi Desai of Pari Hoon Main will be playing teenage Tapasya.
Uttaran airs every Monday to Thursday at 10pm on Colors.
