He wanted to marry her because Imli asked him to do so.
That engagement day things were to taunt her.
But Imli already said here and there that she loves power only and got cheated on love so not loving anymore.
And even said to him if she gets money,she will sell him.
But so far RV looked much committed to Imli especially that scene,where he whipped himself for villagers insult Imli. That is one side of story.
But Power and money driving force for both of them and both has no soft feeling for their own family members.
Both impulsive and he trying to strangle her if frustrated and she slapping him when things went bad.
So its hard to say that what is exactly their motive,but whatever we see as of now,RV committed to Imli and I think their equation will change once Imli betrayed him for anything.
