Scene I
[Continuation from the last episode on 1/07/2017]
[Kanak and Uma]
[On road, in a village]
[Uma on bullock cart and Kanak standing beside him]
(Translator's note: A heated conversation that has been due for long time)
Uma in anger, yells at Kanak: "You bought me here because you had ulterior motives! Because you wanted me to be drunk, you wanted to put an end to my dharm (referring to the principles and disciplines he follows in his life)."
At this point, Kanak looks helpless and apologetically, like a theif caught red-handed, she swings her head down low.
Uma continues to speak [angrily]: "Those who dig a hole for others, fall in that very same hole themeselves. Your schemes have backfired on you!"
Uma then looks away, he's not letting this slide because this time again, Kanak chose to wage a war against his dharm and that is unnacceptable to him at any cost.
Kanak is desperately searching for a way to get away with the schemes she pulled last night. She replies stammering and a bit scared for obvious reasons she was at fault!
And she says: "N-no... I did not, I never mixed any alcohol " and she's cut off by Uma, this time not because Uma has a habit of cutting her off when she's about to say something important but because trying to get away with everythingby slipping Uma a lie!
Uma speaks, again with anger clearly visible in his tone: "You yourself admitted to the scheme you spun yesterday in a drunk state, Kanak."
Now, Kanak really doesn't have any more lies in her pockets to feed Uma. She wonders if she told everything to Uma last night when she was drunk.
(Translator's note: Well, what better way to know, that a straight forward question? perhapst the only straight forward question Kanak has managed to ask Uma in the last 78 episodes)
Kanak to Uma [with hesitation in her voice]: "W-what else did I tell you, last night?"
But it seems that this straight forward question wasn't taken in a good spirit by the man whose dharm Kanak tried to ruin last night.
Uma was angrier, he got off the bullock cart and took steps in Kanaks' direction [dramatic backgroung music plays] and he says: "Why? Why do you want to know that now? Isn't everything clear between us now? You came here for your selfish reasons, but just ruining my dharm wasn't going to get you anything. Then why did you want to intoxicate me? So that you could ask about something from me when I was drunk!"
Kanak is constantly looking down towards the crowd, not wanting to confront anything that Uma says. And he continues: "What did you want to know? I opened up to you, my life was an open book for you to read, I never kept any secrets from you, never denied answers to any questions you asked, the what was it that you wanted to know that you couldn't have known otherwise if I was sober?"
(Translator's note: seems like Uma has a lot to say today!)
Uma, again to Kanak [Kanak is constantly fidgeting and wouldn't dare to look up at Uma]: "Till date, whatever you did, I didn't keep it against you, I forgave you thinking that you are just being naive. But today, you tried to ruin my dharm, Kanak... and this I cannot accept."
Kanak finally dares to look up to Uma, as he continues [Kanak is still scared]: "What did I teach you last time? Answer me!"
[Uma draws close to Kanak, and she steps away as defence mechanism]
Kanak to Uma [hesitantly she speaks]: "That your dharm is too sacred, and you will not tolerate questions being raised on your dharm."
Uma to Kanak: "I told you, Kanak, my dharm is more valuable to me than my life, and knowing this, you still couldn't respect me feelings?!
[Kanak looks down apologetically, and Uma looks away.]
[Kanak slowly raises her head to say something, hurt is and dissapointment is visible in Uma's eyes and facial expessions]
Kanak to Uma [In a sorry tone]: "Please forgive me... I made a mistake..."
Uma to Kanak [angrily]: "There are no sorries left to be said now. Forgiveness is given to those who are actually sorry about the things that they have done, not those that believe that it is their right to make mistakes and do wrong."
To this, kanak can't help but look down. She has no counter arguements for now, nor is her case strong enough in Uma's court.
Uma to Kanak: "Do you remember? What you said to me? That you will force me to break this knot (of marriage), and then, I will ask you leave myself. So, congratulations! You've done it, you've forced me to ask you to leave and end this relationship right here and right now."
[Kanak looks at Uma, her eye are moist and red]
Uma to Kanak: "A woman like you, who schemes, plans, and plots all day long has no place in my life, now go back to the world that you came back to me from."
He continues: "Be happy, all your life, that you won from Uma Shankar in a bet. And he too now agrees that the omens that Lord Shiva had given him for this relationship were nothing but a mere coincidence, and the oaths that I took, I have broken them as well today."
[Kanak looks down, tears threatening to fall from her eyes]
Uma hisses through his teeth: "And yes, do make those spiked jalebis when you get home, they will serve as both a reminder and your trophy in your celebration of winning the bet today. You family is going to be so proud!"
Uma then picks up his bag from the bullock cart and walks away from Kanak. Seeing him leave, Kanak says: "So.. you're leaving me? You're going?"
And to this, Uma has a quick reply: "Where we ever, together? Leaving, is just a formality."
Kanak to Uma: "No, no.. you can't do this!"
Uma turns towards Kanak and says [in a firm tone]: "The three things that I gave to you as your future financial security, I'm taking them back, the jewellery, the gold and Kanak Mishthan Bhandaar.
At this point, Kanak is wide-eyed as Uma looks at her with a stern face.
Umat to Kanak: "I've also told Gabbasa to discontinue with the transfer process of the shop to you."
Kanak to Uma [feeling helpless]: "But.. but you gave that shop to m" but Uma cuts her off.
Uma to Kanak: "I gave that shop to my wife, and now, no wife, no oath. To give to a selfish, and scheming woman with no principles and disciplines, I have nothing."
Uma turns away from Kanak and walks away. In Kanak's moist eyes, tears finally surface and she pleads: "Uma ji, please wait, please forgive me, Uma ji I made a mistake, Uma ji, please wait!" but he listens not and keeps walking away.
Kanak in a teary, and helpess stare says to herself: "What will I do now?"
She starts pleading again [sad version of TSMSP title track, female version plays]: "Uma ji, please forgive me, please Uma ji!!"
As Kanak looses herself, because no mater how much she calls for himnow, he won't stop walking away. She keeps repeating the words, "Uma ji, I'm sorry, I made a mistake, please forgive me." as she sits down and starts weeping.
Scene II
[Uma Shankar's House, Ladnun]
[Saras, Maasisa, and Palomi]
[Saras cleaning the floor with water and a broomstick, Palomi cleaning utensils]
Maasisa to everyone in the scene: "Is everyone trying to put a child to sleep or actually doing some work? Why so slow? Speed up!"
Maasisa looking at Saras: "Only a day remains in Shiv's Yagyopavit Sanskaar, (The sacred thread ceremony that is held for boys - please correct me if I'm wrong) do I have to spell out all the chores to you all?"
Maasisa walks towards saras whose still cleaning and says: "Saras, did you tell Gabbasa to as the labourers to come?"
To this, Saras replies: "Maasisa you asked Suman to inform about this to Gabbasa".
Maasisa replies: "Suman will not be present in the pooja (in the worship time) as she is not shudh (pure)."
[Translator's note: Suman is not pure? What the hell does that mean? Is she refferring to Suman having her periods? that's the only time people tell girls and women that they aren't pure enough to sit in sacred worshipping rituals]
Maasisa then tells Saras and Palomi that they are going to do the chores on Suman's behalf instead.
Maasisa to Palomi: "Where is the silver cutlery? I don't see them here."
Palomi to Maasisa: "Uhm, they are kept in Kanak's cupboard and it's locked."
Maasisa to Palomi [while smiling]: "Yeah.. they are a newly wedded couple, they must have their personal stuff so of course, they are going to lock it. But don't worry, I have the keys to that cupboard, I'll get the keys."
Maasisa leaves to get the keys and Palomi says [in a sarcastic tone]: "Newly weds! hmph! Just by the looks of it, nothing like a wife and husband between them." and then she shrugs.
Scene III
[Back to Uma and Kanak, in a neighbouring village]
[Kanak all alone running]
Kanak is running, hoping to catch up to Uma who is nowhere to be seen. She talks to herself while running, exclaiming that she crossed all limits today, not only the thing you did to Uma was wrong but you even lost Bhabho's biggest happiness, her shop. Today, Uma's hasn't just thrown you out of the house, he has also taken away the shop that he was going to give back. No, she can't let that happen, she needs to find Uma and fix the mess she made.
So she runs yelling his name time and again.
[Translator's note: again she seems to be taking a shortcut through the jungle, I mean for a girl who doesn't know her way around the village, she sure is confident and seems to be knowing where she is going.]
She reaches what seems like the extension of the village they left or maybe is a new village? A group of women are drying out long clothes, Kanak stops by these women asks them: "Excuse me, has anyone here seen uma Shankar? He is my husband!"
[Translator's Note: Is this the first time she has acknowledged him as her husband?]
A woman replies: "He has just left."
Kanak finally catches up to him. Uma is now in his car, driving slowly, Kanak is running right beside the car. She pleads with him and asks him not to leave her but all her efforts are in vain.
Then she goes running ahead of the car, and lies down on the fround before his car. He stops the car and starts moving it again, this time increasing his speed. She sees him increase the speed of his car, saying a quick prayer to Shivji she decides to keep put on the ground.
When he's just some inches away from her he stops the car, seeing that she won't move. He then gets out of the car and she gets up from the ground.
Uma to Kanak: "Don't try to get in my way, I need to get home."
Kanak to Uma: "Yes.. so, I never stopped you from going home, but it does not sit well with the dharm that you follow to go home leaving your wife behind."
Scene IV
[Golu, Vansh, Rani and other family members, at the Rathi House]
[Golu is staring at the half flower he got from Rani's hair in the previous episodes]
Vansh to Golu: "I think you've fallen in love with Rani."
Golu immidiately gets up from the sofa and says: "Why did you think so?"
Vansh replies: "If you're going to sit with that look on your face with Rani's flower, everyone is going to think that."
Golu tries to make up an excuse saying it was just a concidence that the flower came up in front of his eyes and dismisses Vansh's claims.
Seeing this, Vansh says: "Look golu, the eyes of a man in love, never lie. And your eyes are telling me that you've fallen in love. Be it with Rani or Maharani."
Then we hear Rani shout out and call Vansh, and Meenakshi and Bhabhasa. She makes halwa (sweet dish) and asks everyone to have some as her marriage has been fixed. When Golu is offered the halwa he declines.
Rani then informs Meenakshi that it's not easy to predict Golu's mood these days. Meenakshi shoo's her away. And tells Golu that Bijlee never returned the saree he gifted her, so hope is not lost.
Scene V
[Back to Kanak and Uma]
[Both standing facing each other in front of the car]
Uma to Kanak: "The relationship that you are talking about has always been a joke to you, you never accepted this marriage. I overlooked all your pranks thinking that you are naive. I kept working hard to sustain this relationship thinking that with time and my company, your views will change. But nothing of the sort happened."
He continues: "You always wanted to free yourself from the chains of this relationship, you kept trying to free yourself from the burden of this marriage. You think of me as your enemy, then why do you insist on coming along with this enemy of yours?"
Kanak to Uma: "Who told you that I want to be free from this marriage? If it were like that, I wouldn't have come back to Ladnun on my own free will."
[Uma looks a bit puzzled, hearing that] but she continues to say: "Yes, I agree that I'm a bit mischievous, but sometimes such pranks are normal between a husband and wife, andin our relationship, we even argued with each other but that doesn't mean that you end the relationship altogether."
She doesn't stop here though and continues: "And about the alcohol thing, I'm sorry, I was wrong." and he turns his head away.
Kanak looks at Uma, as if she were looking for his approval and says: "Can't we put this behind us? Forget all of this? Please?"
She continues: "Look, I know this was my fault, I was wrong, and I really very sorry. I'm ready to atone for my wrongdoings and everyone who makes a mistake should get at least one chance to make up for that mistake, right? I will do anything you ask of me!"
Uma is staring at her and he says: "You won't be able to do it."
Kanak looks at Uma with determination and says: I will do it, in the past few days I have done things I never thought I could do. And when you aim is high, then the exams don't scare you anymore. Tell me what to do and I'll do it."
Uma to Kanak: "Till date, you've not understood the true meaning of this relationship. After today, you will have to prove yourself asthe rightful and dutiful wife of mine."
The End - For now...
Translator's note: Whoa! What an episode, can't believe it took 3.5 hours to translate this!
On a happy note, those touched by the silly disease of the seeta-geeta track can be on their road to recovery.
And, let's see how Kanak will handle the upcoming roles. π
