TSMSPJ*ep.69*21.6.17:My Impression* Judging a book by its cover..
It's advised not to judge a book by the appearance of its cover. The contents might be a mismatch with what's portrayed. The saying when applied to life serves as a warning against the opinions we may form about the quality or inferiority about people or things, just by looking at them. To assume, suppose and deliberate about someone or something at one glance can lead to misguided judgement .Today's episode makes me think about the term judgement. Taking and passing judgements, casting opinions, and drawing conclusions.
We have Uma Shankar, clear headed, focussed, sober as a judge. He already lives under the impression that he knows full well how to deal with women. He has good reason to consider this. He lives in a house graced across the board with a fair selection of women. One elderly mother; another middle aged Maasi , yet another ward Palomi , one sister and SIL roughly his brides age. Finally one moody teen aged girl to!l. So he can safely deliberate within his own right that he knows all to well the nature of women in general. However what he has chosen as his wife is something else! Kanak is like gush of a swirling whirlwind in his life. To everything he says and does, she kicks up a fuss! All he points out to her, even that which is for her own good , she suspects him of being a scoundrel with ill intentions! Yet her obnoxious, self willed ,defiance, back chatting! egg's him onto her. In fact I see Uma as very much a judge of his own situation! all her defiant displays, be it blowing and popping bubbles in his face! Showing him up in the market place, to jetting off in a rickshaw ! all add up to him putting up with her! this sober as a judge man.. enjoys under the canopy of her hyper activities. He felt for her, the gods supported it! So Kanak's never ending nonsense will not ward off what he feels for her! as far as he can conclude after careful consideration he will not go off those feelings he has for this wild filly wife of his!
Well judging things on their own merit, Uma gets his compensation for Kanak turning down his bike ride! Her plan to sightsee Ladnun by rickshaw is foiled as the driver has to tell her to get off ,as it was his lunch break! Well Uma chuckles!he needn't retaliate as the deities take care, of that.. but with Kanak there's plenty more in her! to ensure opinions change in his household where he is the self imposed god Uma Shankar!
The scene where two brothers Ved and Vansh be the judge of what Kanak's husband would be like? was universally endearing. Brothers in this case want the best for their sister. Part of the rakhi bandhan is to look out and protect their sister throughout their lives. Both Ved and Vansh speculate, in worth, value and accuracy the taste of their sister in terms of the husband she has chosen for herself. It's based on judgements they perceive on what they know of their sisters likes and dislikes. There is belief, they both carry that Kanak will most certainly choose a man with whom she has struck an affinity ,a compatibility with.. the fact that it might be quite untrue never crosses their mind. Both brothers judge Kanak's character , that like other young girls their sister too aspired since long, to be whisked off from this unhappy home environment by her knight in shining armour! He would come for her, riding a white stallion and carry her and ride off into the sunset ! it looks comical when Kanak's knight is seen riding a bike! Well when Ved and Vansh find out the truth behind their sisters marriage and her groom.. they will have to be the judge of all that they see and hear. ..or they won't judge by what is seen? Mind you it all boils down to the fact, how much discloses before them!
The scene where Kanak reaches home before Uma does, to tarnish his image before his family, is all about how Maasi and the rest of the jing bang judge the whole case of Kanak's cock and bull story! How much it holds it own merit? Maasi will give her evaluation! on how credible the story is? Well it has some merit , as Kanak does turn up back home ,on her own. She lies through her teeth , he preferred to sort some patient ,rather than protect her! Kanak was quizzed by all more soo by Palomi who invests blind faith in Uma... but to no avail as the once again bland faced Uma finds himself in a sticky situation courtesy of Kanak ..one more battle won as far as Kanak is concerned.. Uma is as sober as a judge.. allows her ,little victories. But than lets not judge the book by its cover.. as Kanak ,graciously as the good wife, patronisingly, requests Maasi to let him off! And punish her instead for leaving the house on her own in the first place!... matter ends and Kanak ends up in the kitchen to make halwa...
Now for me this scene is the highlight of the episode.. upon which the title fits rather well! Its the scenes between Bhabo and Rani.. Bhabo who to me is distant, bit of grouch, only speaks to bite off her family's head off! Keeps to herself, and loathes Kanak through and through! I actually saw her interacting lightly with Rani in the kitchen.. in fact giving a young girl tips how to get to a young man's heart. To me it suddenly struck ,that she misses the presence of certain young girl , in her like. Rani is the same age as Kanak.. Bhabo never shared such moments with Kanak.. where a poti share's her dreams ,anxieties with her dadi! Where this gap remained in Kanak's life.. today I see it regrettably remains in Bhabo's life too.. she will never admit it ... but deep down there is Kanak sized gap in her life, which she tries to fill with by taking a keen interest in Rani's love angle and groom hunting... I leave this thought with you to judge its merit..
Where Bhabo teaches Rani to make the halwa..perhaps she judges her own cause.. of trying to be impartial about Kanak.. but the mention of the fact by meenaskshi at seeing Rani being taught by Bhabo ,that when Kanak made halwa .. it carried the same smell that Suraj's hawla did .. I am sure Bhabo was swayed by her emotions.. far away Kanak too picks up as if by magic.. the instructions Bhabo gives Rani!! And Kanak smiles.. my halwa does smell like my fathers!
All get served the delightful dessert , except Uma.. he is served a plate of peppered and savoury halwa.. which he insists on sharing with his good wife.. they eat from the same plate..so that love grows stronger between them! By now Uma gets the taste of being at the receiving end! From now he will insist they play games together.. much love..hamlet53 22.6.17
