The buzz is that Karan Johar is in talks with Bollywood's latest heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor for the role of a jihadi in Khan.

A source close to Ranbir, who interestingly will be seen as a politician in Rajniti, confirms, "Yes talks are going on. Karan has asked him to play the role of a jihadi and Ranbir too is very excited about his role. Also, he is thrilled about the thought of working with SRK.

Currently, Ranbir is shooting a special song for a Yash Raj film in Switzerland and will be back in the first week of June. He will meet up Karan and take things further when he comes back."

But even as Ranbir's role is yet to be finalized, dad Rishi will be turning villain for Vashu Bahgnani's Kal Kisne Dekhaa.

Khan is expected to go on the floors in October after SRK completes shooting for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. The film will see the super hit Shah Rukh Khan – Kajol pairing together for the first time since Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001).

About Khan

The film revolves around the relationship of a husband and wife and what happens between them post 9/11. Major portion of the filming will take place in the US. The shooting will take place after the filming of Dostana finishes and is tentatively likely to release in 2009.

Shoaib Akhtar arrives in India, looking forward to playing IPL

NEW DELHI: Minutes after landing in the country, controversial fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar said he was looking forward to a fruitful stint in the Indian Premier League and thanked Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan for his support.

"I am happy to be in India. I am looking forward to play in the IPL and play my role for my team," said Akhtar, who landed at around 1600 hrs at the Indira Gandhi International Airport from Lahore and was mobbed by reporters and shutterbugs to cause a melee of sorts.

"I am grateful to the people of India for embracing me, especially (team owner) Shah Rukh Khan who supported me. Eden Gardens is like my home ground. I am looking ahead to be there soon," added Akhtar.

The speedster is free to play for Shah Rukh-owned Kolkata Knight Riders after the Pakistan Cricket Board temporarily suspended his five-year ban.

Akhtar, who leaves for Kolkata by an Indian domestic flight in the evening, admitted he would have to train hard and acclimatise with the conditions though he had visited the country late last year.

"I have not played cricket for four months. I have to acclimatise with the conditions and train hard. I want to do my bit for my team," he said.

While refusing to talk about his appeal pending before an Appeallate Tribunal in Pakistan.

"I don't want to talk about the case, it is pending before a tribunal," he said.

I will never let SRK, Knight Riders down: Shoaib Akhtar

KOLKATA: The arrival of Shoaib Akhtar here on Monday night has breathed new life into Kolkata Knight Riders and its supporters. The Rawalpindi Express is all set to play a Knight Rider at the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The 32-year-old controversial fast bowler was finally allowed to play in the IPL after an appellate tribunal suspended for a month his five-year ban by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). He had been banned for violating the PCB code of conduct repeatedly.

Are you playing Thursday's match against Bangalore Royal Challengers at Eden Gardens here?

Well, I am all set to take the field. Even when I was undergoing so much tension in those miserable situations I didn't skip gym and nets for a single day. Coach John Buchanan wants to test my fitness before he can take a decision whether I will play on Thursday or not.

What do you want?

Of course I am dying to take to the grounds. I will be practising with the entire team at Eden this afternoon (Tuesday). Honestly, I wish to start my IPL match here. Eden Gardens is lucky for me. After all it was at this ground that I got Sachin Tendulkar out on the very first ball (Asian Test Championship, February 1999).

Have you watched any of the Knight Riders' matches so far?

I have not missed a single Twenty20 match. It's difficult to make you understand how I craved to become a part of my team. I even got myself a huge plasma television set to get a feel as if I am watching the matches from the pavilion.

What do you have to say about the fourth consecutive defeat of the team?

All we need is one victory right now. Then the entire scenario at the IPL will change. And I am sure we will win.

Don't you think that your presence is a big relief for the team?

I don't know about the team, but my presence is the biggest relief for me.

Did you ever think that you would be allowed to play in the IPL?

I don't want to discuss my case here. I just want to start afresh. But one thing I would like to say - I have been able to overcome this traumatic situation and return to the field because of IPL chairman Lalit Modi, Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan and captain Sourav Ganguly. The way they stood by me, fought for me and empathised with me is unbelievable. I will never let them down in my life.

Did Sourav Ganguly really support you?

I don't know what people think about us (Ganguly and me). But we are old friends. At times we have to be tough on the field when you are playing against each other. But off-field we are close friends. And our friendship has become stronger now. I will try to live up to his expectations in this league
