Imran wins his first Filmfare Award
Congratulations to Imran Khan on winning the Filmfare Best Male Debut Award of 2008 for Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. He shared the award with fellow nominee Farhan Akhtar. On winning, Imran said "Thanks to Aamir uncle for always knowing what is good." The film Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na also fetched choreographer Longines an award for Best Choreography for the song Pappu Can't Dance Saala.
Imran was also one of the hosts for the award ceremony held on the evening of February 28, 2009. Here is a compilation of media coverage for the event.
Imran Khan said this is his first time at hosting a show and he is damn nervous. "My hands are shaking with nervousness. But Ranbir and me are going to be good and no naughtiness like Shahrukh and Saif. We will not insult anyone. (laughs)"
Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek and Aishwarya arrived together in a white Mercedes. Their entry caused a stir. Hosts Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan were set to zoom in on their bikes from two opposite gates, when suddenly the Bachchans walked in and Imran and Ranbir were forced to stop. They waited for 20 minutes before they could restart their bikes and continue their act. They made a super cool entry. They both drove in on a funky bike with names Cool and Dude.
Just before their entry, Karan Johar said, "SRK has given a cold shoulder to the function and Saif thought it's unsafe to be here. So apart from me there are two cool dudes who will be hosting the show."
The audience cheered when the hot dudes appeared in a cool manner. Abhishek Bachchan couldn't stop himself from standing up and cheering for them too.
Once on stage, Ranbir and Imran say, "Last year many people had complains that no spoofs were pulled off on them. Are we not important they asked? So this year we will not disappoint anyone. Hum kisika mazaak nahi udayenge ." The two also took the oath of the Filmfare statuette, " Hum jo kuch kahenge accha kahenge, acche ke siwa kuch nahi kahenge.
Taking potshots at each other, cracking jokes about the audience and ensuring themselves roles in Dostana 2, Ranbir and Imran kept the audience rolling in the aise with their razor sharp wit and crackerjack comments.
Sample this: "Bura mat manna, lekin log tera last name sun kar Aamir Khan ke baare mein sochte hain. I am the future,'' said Ranbir. "Aur tera last name sunkar Sonam kapoor ke baare mein sochte hain. I am the future,'' quipped Imran. The two also did imitations of SRK in Rab Ne (Ranbir) and Aamir in Ghajini (Imran).
Imran adopting mamu-jaan Aamir's Ghajini look took the cake. How is Aamir going to react to this? "Well, I had warned him about it earlier," said Imran and added, "He has a sense of humour, you know."
Hosts for the evening Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan were in character from the word go! On the red carpet, they were overheard discussing that Karan Johar had started the show. "I just hope we don't end up finishing it," they mock shuddered! As the newest Khan on the block said, "There will be Rekhaji, Rakeshji out there...," the latest entrant from the Kapoor khandaan added, "Yaar, I'm just scared of Rishiji and Neetuji..." Keep it going, guys!
