Part 27

Vidya

The honking of cars behind me made me jump out of my trance. Sagar looked lazily at the windshield while my hands fluttered around trying to remember what to do to make the car move forward. I stomped on the gas pedal and the car accelerated forward almost hitting the car in front of me. I quickly hit the brakes and saved both vehicles. The traffic was moving forward, to my relief, and I drove to college in a ponderous and confused mind.

Rohan was already waiting for us in the parking garage and we both helped Sagar, who looked like he might pass out at any moment, get out of the car. Many people watched us as we walked to the dorm building together, but I was too out of my mind to care.

We got up to Rohan and Sagar's room and Rohan had to let go of Sagar for a moment to get the key to the door out of his pocket. As soon as he released his hold on him, Sagar stumbled sluggishly to the side and I was about to accompany him to the floor. Luckily, Rohan had already slid the key into the lock and managed to catch Sagar at the same time. He unlocked the door and we staggered in. Rohan finally let go of Sagar and I was about to do the same, for his bed was right behind us, when he protested. "No," he said in that same childish tone he would often use. He wrapped his arms around my waist and laid his head on my shoulder. I thought someone had shocked me. Electric sparks shot across my whole body at his touch.

Rohan and I stared at him open-mouthed.

"Sagar, you're- you're tired," I stuttered, "You need to sleep." He just shook his head. I started getting panicky. If he vomitted on me.....

"Indeed, indeed I cannot tell, though I ponder on it well," Rohan rolled his eyes and I sighed. Would it never end?

"Which were easier to state,
All my love or all my hate.
Surely, surely, thou wilt trust me
When I say thou dost disgust me."

"Sagar what are you saying? You don't disgust me-," he cut me off by squeezing my lips shut like a duck's beak. "I wasn't finished." he said drowsily with a hint of irritation.

"O, I hate thee with a hate
That would fain annihilate;
Yet sometimes against my will,
My dear friend, I love thee still.
It were treason to our love,
And a sin to God above,
One iota to abate
Of a pure impartial hate."

I had totally lost Sagar by now. I didn't have a clue what he was referring to. It sounded like a mixture of our relationship a few months ago and our frienship now. But I didn't understand where the "love" part came from.

I tried reasoning with him again. "Sagar," I lifted his face from my shoulder, "your bed is over there." I pointed at the bed behind us. "I'm not your bed." I said each word slowly and shook my head like I was explaining something to a first-grader for the tenth time. He took one look at the bed half-heartedly. He looked back at me and suddenly his face turned pale. Rohan acted quickly and brought the trash can in front of Sagar's face. He immediately threw up. The sound of it made both of us wince. He lifted his face for a minute, but threw up again. His hands were still around my waist and they tightened every time he barfed. I patted his head sympathetically.

As soon as I was sure Sagar wouldn't get sick anymore, I wiped his face with a towel and tried pushing him backwards towards the bed, but the stubborn boy just wouldn't let go of me. Just when I thought he would let go and fall asleep, he caught me off guard by strengthening his grip around my torso, and pulled me onto the bed with him.

"Oh!" I huffed as I fell on top of him. Although I was shocked, I realized that I felt the same way I had in the car when I put my hand on Sagar's cheek. Rohan laughed. I struggled against Sagar's arms. Even in unconciousness, his strength was tough to fight with. Rohan kept on snickering. I finally gave up and lay limp on his chest, listening to his heartbeats. I knew it was only a matter of a few minutes before he would fall asleep and I was right. As soon as his breathing came to a normal pace, I slowly removed his arms and got off the bed.

I gave Rohan a stern look and he quieted down. "I know for a fact that he's going to be sick all night long. But there's one problem... I have classes early in the morning." Rohan seemed unwilling to leave his best friend during his time of need, but I understood his helplessness.

"We can do one thing," an idea suddenly occurred to me. "I can switch rooms with you for tonight and take care of Sagar. My earliest class tomorrow is at eleven in the morning, so I don't think I'll have any problem and neither will Radha." Rohan's cheeks reddened slowly and I looked at him in puzzlement. He was staring at the floor. "Um... are you sure she won't have any problem?" He asked and his blush intensified to my surprise. He looked up to see my confused face and added quickly," I meant to say, are you sure there won't be any problem with this temporary arrangement?"

I was still looking at him with bemused eyes, "No, there won't be any trouble. Like you said, it's temporary, nah?" I was watching him carefully, but his curious expression didn't change.

"Yeah, you're right. Well, I guess we should go get our things ready for tonight's sleepover." We smiled at each other.

OMG...she is staying with him ...muje toh kuch kuch ho raha hain... It was cute the way he wouldn't let go of her ....She adores him more than she would care to admit ...she didn't run out of the room when he was throwing up ---I am eagerly waiting for his embarrassment the next morning when he wakes up with a headache and hangover...Is it possible that when he wakes up, to his astonishment he would find her sleeping beside him and would kiss her forehead and she would open her eyes at that moment..kind of like sleeping beauty awaken at the kiss of her prince charming...hehehe....

The stanzas are beautiful dear...

Ariba....very few people can be dexterous in both prose and poems.....you are among those rare few...well done sweetie....I am super proud of you...

I'm done singing...Wow...I can't believe this. Rohan likes Radha? Thank goodness for that. Now we won't have to feel too bad for her; he'll take care of her😳

Drunk Sagar is so adorable. Hehe he wouldn't let go of her. Now I really want to see how the morning after will be. Not only had he embarassed himself, Vidya was there the entire night. God knows what he'll do next - sleep talking, or even sleep walking?😉 Awesome part hun!! Continue soon!!
