"Khushboo is a film for youngsters so the music has to be very fresh and keeping this in mind I have composed the music. I'm sure youngsters will like the music. I respect Mr. Pahlaj Nihalani who is superior to me in many respects and I hope the music will be appreciated by the audience," says a hopeful Adnan.
About his acting aspirations, he says, "My wife is based in Dubai and she told me that if I want to act then she will produce it. She is very much into business and is planning to take some of the leading actors from the industry so let's see how it works."
On his massive weight loss, he proudly says, "I had never imagined that I would reduce my weight so much but yes I was advised not to eat oily food so I used to eat boiled food without sugar or rice. When I was a kid to used to eat everything but when I was dieting, my dad had told me just to look not eat…meri aankhen khana khati ti. The doctor advised me not to eat more than two pieces of chicken a day."
Adnan wanted to be a singer since childhood. He reveals, "I started learning piano at the age of 5 and my family has lived in various parts of the world like Sweden, Paris, and London. So I have heard all kinds of music - Arabic, Latino, classic and you can see the variations in my style."
Adnan is also composing music for Vikram Bhatt's 1920, Sadiyaan and a Ken Ghosh film.

Adnan's new avatar
The spotlight is back on Adnan Sami. This time for his slim look and new role as a television host. MANGALA RAMAMOORTHY chats with the singer-composer |
Whoever said life doesn't give you a second chance can, well, eat his words. As it not only gives you another chance, but a good one, even if not too often. Adnan Sami will vouch for every bit of it. Lighter by 130 kg, back with his wife Safa G aladhari, and a rising musical career,
Adnan says he never had it better. "Touch wood! I am really grateful to God for giving me another lease of life.
It's unfortunate, but we often don't value what we have in life. Only when it is gone do we realise its importance," says the musician.
His slimmer avatar garners as many compliments these days as his music. "You know, I never thought I would ever be called handsome and get flattering remarks for my look. It's all so new but I like it," he quips.
This time around, it is neither his music nor his look that bring him under the spotlight. Instead, it is his latest incarnation as a television host that's taking all the attention.
Bol Baby Bol, a musical game show, on Star One, will see the singer-composer take centre stage and the audience on a journey to fame and money. "I didn't want to be part of a reality show, as there's one on every channel. But when Star approached me with this concept, I found it interesting and unique, as it was based on lyrics. People participating in Bol Baby Bol needn't have any special talent. They just need to have a good memory and know the lyrics of their favourite songs by heart to win up to Rs. 25 lakh," says Adnan, who was last seen as a judge on Channel V's Super Singer.
Enjoying the moment
Though he had apprehensions, Adnan thoroughly enjoys shooting for the show. "I am having the time of my life! Initially, I thought whether I really need to do this but no longer. It's now up to the audience to decide whether they like me or not." You can never have enough of this talented musician and that's because he has so much to offer.
Bollywood career
His Bollywood career as a film music director took off well with Lucky – No time for Love and Mumbai Salsa is his latest offering. "It has a very different subject. The music too represents the theme of city life. I have tried to bring in elements of real life into it," explains Adnan, who also did the music for the Sanjay Dutt-starrer Dhamaal.
The "Lift Karade" man's latest album, Kisi Din, is still doing the rounds. And he agrees the shift from albums to films wasn't easy, as independent albums allow him to make his kind of music, but for films there are too many parameters to adhere to.
"I had a feeling films would limit me. But to my surprise, cinema has opened up new avenues for my creativity. I am able to explore genres that I couldn't do in my albums," he said, citing the example of his forthcoming film, Vikram Bhatt's 1920, a supernatural thriller. "I have got Pandit Jasraj and Parveen Sultana to do R&B numbers in it. It's great."
This London-bred Pakistani has made India his second home, so much so he has got amalgamated into its culture. "I keep telling people Mumbai was the missing link in my life. I feel complete now.
Ashaji once told me, 'Tum jahan bhi paida huye ho, tumhari rooh to India ki hai'. I believe she was so true."
