| A file photo of Aamir and Kiran playing cricket at Panchgani | Although ad man, lyricist and script writer Prasoon Joshi and Aamir Khan are great friends, they recently had a tiff while playing cricket. Aamir and Prasoon were captains of opposite teams at a 14-over cricket match organised by Aamir and his wife Kiran Rao on New Year's Eve at Panchgani. The couple was holidaying in the hill station with their good friends when they decided to play cricket in the tennis court of the posh hotel where they all were staying.
While Kiran Rao, Kunal Kohli and Aamir's accountant, Vimal were in the actor's team, Amin and Karim (the twins who acted in Lagaan) and others were in Prasoon's team.
Prasoon's team made 76 runs and Aamir's team had to score 77 runs in 14 overs.
Before the last ball was delivered, Team Aamir's score read 74 runs. Kunal Kohli and Vimal were batting and they had to make 3 runs in the last ball to win the match. When Prasoon's bowler delivered the last ball, Kunal hit the shot and the Fanaa filmmaker and Vimal managed to score one run after which they ran between wickets for the second run. However, before the second run could be completed, Prasoon threw the ball and hit the stumps before Vimal could reach the crease.
That's when Prasoon's and Aamir's team had an argument.
Says an eyewitness, "While Kunal and Vimal argued that Vimal had reached the crease before the bails came off, Prasoon insisted that Vimal was run out. The argument intensified when other members from both the teams also started fighting good-naturedly with each other. Understandably, nobody wanted to lose, especially not Aamir who had scored 18 runs for his team."
"Amin and Karim, who were in Prasoon's team, were very vociferous that Vimal had not completed the run when Prasoon's ball hit the stumps," adds the source.
When contacted, Kunal Kohli said that it was a friendly fight.
We also contacted Prasoon Joshi to get an account about his last ball. He says, "Please leave me out of this. It was a very private affair."
Both the teams refused to accept defeat. While Aamir's team insisted that the match was a tie, Prasoon felt that he and his boys had clearly won.
Music directors Shankar, Ehsaan, Loy and director of Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Mansoor Khan also played the match.
Commenting on the holiday, Kunal Kohli says, "Aamir played the perfect host and did not allow any of the guests to pay up for anything whatsoever. He had called about 50 of his close friends. Several people had gathered to watch us play. It was great fun."
Aamir and Kiran are avid cricket fans. It may be recalled that they had also played cricket with their family and close friends when they got married at Panchgani in December 2005. |
