Lata Mangeshkar. The name is enough to recall the treasure of Indian popular/cinema music. I am opening three threads to faciliate a musical celebration in three strands.

In her boundless Hindi film repertoire what are the five songs that to you spell 'Lata' and that you cannot imagine in any other voice? Who in the Bemisaal Barah should sing them, regardless of gender, but only one song per singer and one singer per song?

My list:

Ab to hai tumse, Abhimaan: Sumitra

Allah tero naam, Hum Dono: Abhilasha

Rasik balma, ??: Arshpreet

O sajna, Parakh: Mirande

Rahe na rahe hum, Mamta: Priyani

I'm dumbfounded when i think of Lataji's songs, because there are countless memorable songs that it becomes hard to pick & choose and that is the greatness of this avatar of Devi saraswati. Her voice has a soothing effect on the mind & calms the tensed nerves to such an extent that you feel hypnotised & most probably fall into a deep pleasant trance from which i refused to be awaken.
Such is the magic of lataji's voice that it sounds like a musical instrument itself.

Some of my favourite Lataji songs are:

Aye dil-e-naadan: Razia sultan - Hope Abhilasha can do justice here.
Ajeeb dastaan hain yeh: Dil apna preet parayi - Arshpreet, a
Naino mein bhadra chaaye: Mera saaya - Priyani
Aayega aane wala: Mahal - Mirande
Tumhe yaad karte karte:Amrapali - Sumitra
Aji rooth kar kaha jayi: Aarzoo - Toshi(He could also choose the Kacche dhage song Upar khuda)
Yeh kahan aa gaye hum: Silsila- Harshit
Pyaar kiya to darna kya: Mughal-e-Azam - Aabhas (he is singing satyam shivam sundaram on Saturday)
O yaara sili sili: Lekin - Ishmeet
Rasme ulfat: Dil ki Raahen - Irfan
Yeh zindagi usiki hain:Anarkali - Prantika

I like all your choices though I would like Arshpreet to try "Rasme Ulfat ko Nibhayen.." or ""Rahte the kabhi jinke dil mein..."
