Do you like the present voting system?

Or, would you like one that allows boys and girls to compete for separate titles - Best Among Boys, Best Among Girls.

Please vote and share any comments.

Poll choices

Choice 1 is current public voting system on srgmp. The contestant (boy or girl) with least votes is eliminated each round.

Choice 2 is separate eliminations for boys and girls during each round. Girls compete agains only other girls. Boys compete against other boys.

Male contestant who gets the lowest votes among the boys for that round will be eliminated. Female contestant who gets the lowest votes among the girls for that round will be eliminated.

Some thoughts to keep in mind before voting:

1. It seems that the srgmp challenge audience votes disproprotionately more for boys than for girls.

2. Also, male vocals and female vocals are supposed to sound different. It can be difficult to compare male voice against female voice and say one is better than the other.

3. Musical awards are often done separately by male and female categories. (e.g. Himesh did not win 2006 Filmfare for best playback singer. He won for best male playback singer.)

4. Reality shows tend to follow the "survivor" mentality with only one person remaining as the survivor. For some viewers, narrowing the lot down to one winner is the whole fun of the show.

5. We have no female mentors on SRGMP Challenge series. We have only music directors, who are male. Where is the female mentorship for these young women on the show? We have male music directors advising girls to be fictional dulhan, improve body language, remind people they were born without a father and had to go starving, etc. All these tactics result in girls getting eliminated before boys. Where are the strong female mentors from the music industry to tell these young ladies to hold their heads up high and SING.

I like the current elimination system, too, except that I feel the girls are at a disadvantage under the current mentoring structure and the way public voting is carried out (e.g. unlimited SMS, internet voting problems, etc.).

I think the current elimination system could be somewhat improved if there was at least one female mentor among the judging panel (though as a matter of personal preference, I would like Zee to bring someone other than Alka Yagnik).

Also, it would be nice if Zee could take some steps to make public voting more efficient and credible. For starters, they could find a way to put restrictions on number of sms/votes per viewer. And, also, give us some idea of whether our internet votes are even being counted each week by telling us how many of these votes were received. (I think for ratings/monetary reasons though, Zee prefers to keep things unstructured/vague and keep the confusion going.)

Actually, I think since there would be two eliminations per a round, the number of elimination rounds would be cut by half. So even if each episode may be longer, depending on how Zee structures them, the actual run of the contest would be much shorter if every week had an elimination round.

One way to keep the contest from being too short would be to alternate each week between performance rounds and elimination rounds, or something along those lines.

You are right that it would probably take more time and effort from Zee team to make it work properly each week, though! And, Zee team no doubt is more interested in getting maximum TRP than making the contest fair.

I support separate elimination for boys and girls. As you said the vocal characteristic of males and females are different and they are not comparable.

What is more, the contest started with separate elimination for boys and girls, it gets mixed in the agnipariksha round. Though they have a system of declaring a first among the girls, they should actually award a contract to her as well.

Again in the hindsight, will not not be a great fun to see a girl beating a boy in final ? If they were separately eliminated you will never have the chance to see that day !!

I like the way it is b/c if one boy and girl got out the same week, then SRGMP would end really fast

Well, to compensate for that we increase the elimination period to two weeks instead of one week as it is now.

I couldn't agree more, gopalbhai.

In hindsight, yes, I too would love to see a final showdown where a girl beats a boy! Perhaps once separate eliminations narrow it down to the best among girls and best among boys, then these two could compete for best challenger title and runner-up, both given contracts?

I see your point, snowflake. I do not want the show to end too soon either!

As I said in my previous post, though - it all depends on how the Zee team structures the rounds. For example, if they alternate each week between elimination and performance rounds, then the contest wouldn't have to be shorter.

I am not up to date with spoilers, but if it is as I suspect, then there will be no more girls in the contest after this Friday.

Sa Re Ga Challenge needs to do something to change this trend in the future. There should be girls in the mega-finals. It is very boring to see Debo vs. Vinit, Raja vs. Aneek....it seems like the same contest year after year now....HR's scapegoat vs. Hr's protege.
