one of the biggest questions i have on my mind regarding SRGMP right now is the one about versatility.

vishal and shekhar yelled at the top of hteir lungs for mussarat to show "versatility" in his song choice. therefore for the past few weeks, he has been singing non-sufi songs. however, raja - praised ridiculously high in this show especially by v&s - hasn't shown any versatility to date. from the episodes that i have seen (i haven't seen every single episode mind you, but i have seen most), he sings the same type of songs. i have never once heard him sing a fast pop number or anything of the sort. when mussarat sang nusrat fateh ali khan's song on the last episode, he was praised enormously -- obviously, becuase that is his forte. howeve,r why isn't raja being forced to show versatility?! mussarat has had to suffer not so great comments sometimes because he ventured into areas that weren't his strengths, however raja has been getting praise after praise because he has only been singing in the style which he is good at - he hasn't been asked to show any versatility whatsoever, so obviously he will get such good comments week after week.

same with mauli - when she sang the song in the salman khan episode, vishal and shekhar shouted "mauli's back!" -- well obviously, because she went back to her forte, which is item songs! mauli has absolutely NO versatility, as she has proved in the past few weeks when she simply couldn't sing any other type of songs except for item numbers.

personally, i feel that raja should pick different types of songs which showcase his versatility in terms of style. i haven't seen every episode, so i might be mistaken and raja actually has sung different types of songs which i haven't heard, but from what i've seen, raja has stuck to mostly intense slow raaga-based songs, which i think is completley unfair to the rest of hte contestants who have been forced to show their "versatility".

i have the same complaint about musarrat and mauli, why vishal shekar not treating their singing talent equally?

ya it is true they also should pick different kind of song n V&S is showing favouritism 4 mouli. I think among them raja is good singer but his choice of song i don't enjoy 4 sometimes, but i can remember he sang a beautiful song "ya dunia ut patanga" it was fabulous. n musarrat also has problem. I feel he is the most potential singer but his choice of song did not able 2 please me. sometime he lose consistencis because of too much practice of lack of guidance don't know n feel he got nurvious i wish he come back on his track soon

well you can say, they are unfair in the case of Raja

they have insisted versatality for almost everyone except Raja

Amanat, Mussarat, Mauli all have tried different genre's on request, we have come to know how good they are in other genre's and how good they are in their specific genre's

the question is about Raja, when will that happen or will that even happen?

i find raja a hype, i am not so inclined towards his singing, he has a good voice throw and he sings well but i find amanat, poonam, sumedha much better singer than him. i dont know why all the judges favour raja so much.

I have always had this question on my mind about the mentors..first of all I don't think they are very consistent in their comments. VS in the beginning of this show criticized Mauli for getting stuck to a specific genre and not showing her versatility..then later on they chose to completely forget that comment from the earlier rounds, and just kept encouraging her when she sang only her kind of songs..

After that they picked on Amanat, and made him sing songs from a diff genre..same with Musarrat..

Yes I agree Raja mostly selects songs with a classical element with some aalap and all..but to Raja's credit, I have to say he did have a slight variety in his song selection, like Piya re, Mahiya, Upar Khuda-Kachche dhaage, Tere bina-Guru, Naina-Omkara, Allah ke bande, Saara zamana, Chak de fatte, Tare gin gin, Hoga tumse pyara kaun, Meri zindagi-Judaai, Tu hi re-Bombay..

But like I mentioned in another post, since he has a unique voice quality like the Sukhwinder-type, he comes across as being not-so-versatile..

Anyways, coming back to the mentors and their "versatility" opinions, I think to some extent their favoritism affects their statements and they become biased after a point..I also don't like the way Himesh and ID both behave like they are a team..infact its been some time since I've heard any of those mentors give some useful comments or advice to the singers..

Ever since the Agnipariksha rounds began, they have just been promoting their favorites (or Zee's favorites, shud I say?) with the typical "excellent, mind-blowing, u rock, u r a star" kind of comments..its very disappointing..

***Sorry for the long post..guess I just got carried away 😃 ***

The mentors are not perfect and may make some mistakes sometimes. But they generally have good intentions. In judging the contestants they often compare the contestant's performance against their previous performances and expectations. In all fairness, each of the singers are tops in their own category and song types (in which they are good at) eg. Mauli's songs cannot be copied by the rest, and similarly Mauli cannot sing the songs handled by Poonam either and the same goes with a lot of the singers. So the judges can only judge how good each one is in their own category and song types. It is up to the contestant's to prove themselves.

Even I am not a fan of him..I find his singing very confined to those sukhwinder kind..even sometimes his alaps are not perfect..whereas Amanat is a much better singer than him and his voice quality is awesome..I find Raza's voice very rough, not refined/soothing; even sukhwinder's tonal quality is atleast better than him..Only thg for which he has become so popular is his style of singing, his harquats on high notes, his smile n on top of tht the judges praising him now and then..He is also a big hype like Mauli..Of course both are at different levels, Mauli needs to be eliminated now itself n Raza shd be in top 4, I feel.
