John Abraham and Bipasha Basu's troubled relationship throws up the question whether the single working female in Bollywood has the time (and the energy) to invest in relationships, given the frenzied work ethic of the industry.
The normal time afforded to women to nurse a relationship that is smarting, is not available to women who work 14-hour shifts six and even seven days a week.
We spoke to three actresses who were single, and three who have been in long partnerships, and asked them what the problems of finding and keeping love in Bollywood were.
Reshmi Ghosh, with her boyfriend Amit Gupta for 6 years: We make time for each other
Personally I don't find it too hard to be in a relationship and have a full career but I think that if you want to make it difficult for yourself then you can. My guy understands and he doesn't stop me from doing anything. Trust and understanding are very important in a relationship especially when you're in the industry and we have that. It gives us peace of mind. Amit and I make time for each other by meeting after my shoots. We avoid meeting on the sets because we both don't like it. We sometimes go home, to my brother's place or to a friends place. We go out, eat at restaurants or go shopping together so we manage to be with each other. Like every couple we do fight and the strain of the industry does get to me. When we fight I think that I just want to run away- I don't want to work, I don't want anyone around me and I don't want anything! But this only happens once in a while because Amit appreciates my work and he is supportive of me.
