Rajasthan Royals ticked most of their boxes in their Indian Premier League opener against Lucknow Super Giants last Saturday, but the same cannot be said about the Delhi Capitals.

The team, in stages, looked rusty against Punjab Kings, losing to the 2014 runner-up in their first away game. As DC gear up for their second game away from home, the prime attention will once again be on Rishabh Pant.

The wicketkeeper batted looked confident during his stay of 18 off 13 balls but wasn't at his free-flowing best, which is, well, expected given the long layoff he'd had coming into the tournament.

Riyan Parag scoring 43 in 29 balls was just as important for RR as Samson's 82 in 52. Sangakkara said that Parag is set to get an extended run in the No.4 role. Sangakkara said that it is difficult for someone like Parag to be playing in the lower middle order positions where he would not get too many balls to face. The former Sri Lanka captain said that the decision to promote Parag to that position was based on the work the batter has put in leading up to the season and the runs he scored in domestic cricket.

Delhi Capitals, led by Rishabh Pant, will be looking to bounce back from their defeat against Punjab Kings in their season opener. Despite a commendable effort from Abhishek Porel and Kuldeep Yadav, DC fell short in defending their total of 175 against Punjab Kings.

RR vs DC Head to Head Records

These two teams have locked horns 27 times in the IPL, with the Rajasthan Royals holding a slight edge, winning 14 matches, while the Delhi Capitals have emerged victorious on 13 matches. However, history will take a backseat as both sides aim to stamp their authority in this high-octane clash.

The Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur has traditionally favoured the batters, with scores in excess of 170-180 being par for the course. The wicket is expected to offer good carry and bounce, making it an enticing prospect for the pacers as well. However, the spinners might find some assistance if they can extract enough turns from the surface.

With Sanju Samson leading from the front and supported by talented players like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler, Rajasthan Royals boast a formidable lineup. On the other hand, Delhi Capitals have the firepower to put up a tough fight, but RR’s depth in both batting and bowling departments could give them the edge.

As anticipation builds for the Rajasthan Royals vs Delhi Capitals clash, cricket fans can expect a riveting contest between two evenly-matched teams. With star players ready to showcase their talent on the field, the stage is set for an exhilarating showdown at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Stay tuned for what promises to be a thrilling encounter in the 9th match of the IPL 2024.
