Most of us on india forums are practical and educated ppl and can see how anupama is wrong or anuj too few times

But an average human at home like our mom, grand mom, aunty cannot truly understand anupama is wrong

They will just see adhya screaming at anupama and say what a bad girl shes ungrateful look at her shouting at her mom who adopted her? They do not have maturity to think that way anupama and shahs treated her makes her do this

Same way they will say ohh see anupama what a good wife she did not love anyone in 5 years while this bad man anuj got shruti and moved forward and enjoying life

Saame way most viewer will not say look at bad anupama she left anuj and CA alone and went away. They will say look at bad husband anuj is, after accident he started blaming anupama for past 5 years listening to adopted daughter?

See irrespective of us 95% pppl differentiate between own blood and adopted kid or own blood and neighbours kid whether we accept it or not its truth

See common man especially majority viewers of this show have no much maturity or analyzing skills like most of us on this india forums

So even if Fl is toxic and wrong most viewers will sympathize with anupama and not anuj or CA

Have you seen logo off most ITV serials it has only FL and not even ML

Because most viewers who watch this are woman, men will only sit with family and watch but decision to watch is with woman not man at home

So they will try to influence above 30 plus woman who mostly watch these ITv by making Fl abla nari bechari dhukiyari whom all husbands trouble and leave them all kids are bad etc

This approach is about giving a bait to the audience so that they can stay hooked and keep watching the show.

A decade ago, soaps used to follow the strategy of showing a tempting twist in promos and precaps and it used to gather people to watch it but it used to turn out to be a dream or imaginative sequence of one of the characters.

Similarly, shows like Anupamaa now take the path of building up the plot to a high point, like Shah's kicking Anupamaa out, Toshu cheating, etc. and never resolve it because that would mean closure of a problematic part of the story. Instead, immediately after the dramatic sequence, they cover things up with a festival or birthday sequence which paves way for the next dramatic situation that is either completely irrelevant or is a rinse and repeat of a previous similar dramatic twist.

This gives highs and cheap thrills to audiences and makers do not have to waste time in planning a meticulous screenplay.

Also Anupamaa's crying and suffering, and her claims of wanting to punish the perpetrators in the dramatic high point is heavily overplayed, but how she lands in the situation all over again due to her own mistakes by forgiving, forgetting and festival celebrating is severely downplayed so the audiences keep taking the bait of hoping that they will now see the real culprits suffer but it never happens and the show keeps carrying on.

It's not just Anupamaa but many other shows on SP, mainly from DKP house, follow this pattern and continue to have high viewership.

Frankly, i cannot come to understand who or why the show is followed. The closest reason could be habit. Nothing else.

The audience that watched and appreciated Saans, Kora Kaagaz, Alpviram, Balika Vadu, Saat Phere, Jassi Jaisi, KMH, Family NO.1, Swabhimaan, Shanti, Ek Ladki Anjani Si

That covered far more sensitive more than 2 decades ago cannot suddenly turn regressive in today's age.

The only difference is the duration/length and frequency.

Finite series and mostly 1 episode a week.

Thus it kept the writing crisp, thorough and wholesome.

No it's not the same audience. When shows like Tara or Rajni aired, very few people had access to TV and such shows were limited to DD metro. Same goes for early SP, Sony and Zee shows like Saans, Alpviram and Kora Kagaz.

When the K series spurt happened, more people had TV and cable. It's a fact that new technology can be incorporated in human lives very quickly but new mindset takes a lot of time to settle in our heads, which is why the 2000-2010 era had shows about self-sacrificing women and loads of makeup. There were exceptions like Sanjeevani and Saara Akash but after few months of professional and "modern" storylines, they had to dial down to love triangles and cheap conspiracies too. Those who didn't, died a slow death. Hell, even Jassi in Jassi Jaisi koi nahi had to get a makeover and marry Arman to justify that she had "made it", her career was nowhere important.

Then was the 2010-2020 era with apparently modern takes on love but every show had to be only about the female lead falling into the male lead's arms with atleast 5 mins of starting into each other's eyes. Whatever the theme of the show might be, the sloppy romance took up most of the screen time. I remember Ridhi Dogra's very serious show called Maryada, that was about domestic abuse, corruption and even LGBTQ representation, but all the IF forum and other sites talked about was the steaming chemistry of the leads.

And the woman will still sacrifice, but not in a meek way, but in a sassy way, coupled with some mandatory banter with the male lead, so that she passes off as strong and not weak like the previous decade's heroines. This was because more and more youngsters were watching TV so romance was necessary to be included, but only to an acceptable level so as to not lose out on the older crowd as well.

Cut to this day, the people have more access to TV soaps than ever, not just via TV but on phone via OTT too. Not just urban, but rural folk are actively watching TV.

But the mindset of most, especially village folk is yet to progress. If you try to remake a Tara with the FL with super short hair, or a bold show like Hasratein or Justajoo, people will hardly have the stomach to digest it. Yes the same people who can very easily handle the skimpily clad ladies in Nagin will get uncomfortable if a female lead has a boycut.

As times have progressed, the shows have become dumber, and it is to suit the mentalities of growing audiences.

And those who like good content have already moved to OTT and are either watching reruns of old shows or creative web series.

So long story short, the reason Anupamaa ia working is because the makers are implying from time to time that she is bold, but don't ever show her do something actually bold, so that things don't get controversial.

Anupamaa is popular because of Anupamaa. People who watch this show understand how and why they get trapped in bad cycles of abuse. They understand that despite their best intentions, they always do not have avenues to be good mothers in every situation.

The average viewer of this show understands that not interacting with your children just because you got married to someone else is emotionally and materially impossible. Also if the roles were reversed, women are expected to wholeheartedly accept their stepchildren but Anupamaa's children were not enough for Anooj, were they?

This show is Shahi's anti-woman wet dream. Every feminist issue— from sex work to equal pay— is reduced to ridiculous tokenistic hyperbole by a character whose life experiences people instantly recognise. That is the subliminal messaging of this show

Also see how it brings utter elitism out of people who cannot fathom "how a woman like her" ends up with a guy like him without worshipping him five time a days. Those ppple are also not mature like us. Misogyny is woven into this show inany subtle ways lol.

Anupama show is a hit coz its exploiting the immateur and vulnerable minds of gullible audience especially women.I have notice a pattern. FL Andhbhakts lack the ability to demarcate between right and wrong. They simply get carried away when Anupama cries profusely without realizing that her sufferings are an outcome of her own actions.

So true.

Tomorrow if she cries and says mujhe Mr. Shah se divorce nahi lena chahiye tha.

They will all be on the train to get them both remarried and conveniently forget all the wrong he has done.

To defend their stupid FL ek 7 year ki bacchi ko bhi nahi choda. Calling her ganda khoon and ehsaan faramosh and what not.

The sad thing is there are shows who have actually good FL. Pushpa Impossible is direct competitor but no inko toh sirf hai bechari karne wali lead hi chahiye. Pata nahi kya sukh milta hai aisi spineless lead ko dekh kar

I think one of the reasons is that DKP constantly keeps dangling the carrot of Anupama's progress that awakens a hope inside the target audience that now is when she will cut off toxicity and progress in her life. Not the entire audience base of Anupama is evolved, woke and progressive to see that this show is hopeless cause, there are people who wish to vicariously live through her and envision a life free from abuse and pain. So, everytime she is shown to be a rebel, they rejoice. They probably relate with the inability to break out of their own personal shackles and hence can resonate with her constant 'sangharsh' against the Shahs. Also, this show very conveniently cements all the stereotypes, taboos and the misogynistic ideologies that have actively been questioned over the years and pushes people back into the comfort zone of it is what it is rather than make them uncomfortable with facts and the notion that they need to break out of years of conditioning and actively feeding a regressive mindset.
