I just remembered an anecdote related to this song.
So.... Once Bade Ghulam Ali Khan was talking with Pandit jasraj when this song started playing on radio. Khan sahab listened intently to the song and commented for Lata (lovingly) - Kambakht kabhi besuri nahi hoti.

And yes, it's a damn difficult song to sing, especially the inflections in the 'Bewafa' part. It's Lata Mangeshkar after all, any song by her is hard to nail!
