west-indies-drew-the-series-in-australia-1-1West Indies drew the series in Australia 1-1

West Indies won the second Test against Australia by 8 runs and levelled the series 1-1 on the back of Shamar Joseph's 7 for 68, which ripped through the hosts' line-up. Here are some of the key numbers from a famous win achieved by Kraigg Brathwaite's men at the Gabba, Brisbane:

- This is the first win for West Indies on Australian soil in 27 years (9855 days) and 17 Tests. The last win came in 1997 at the WACA by 10 wickets.

- This is the first win for West Indies over Australia since 2003 in 21 Tests and 7565 days. They last won against Australia at St John's where they chased 418 runs in the fourth innings and won by 3 wickets, which is still the highest successful run chase in Test history.

- This is the first loss for Australia in a Day-Night Test match. They had a 11-0 record before this game in pink-ball Tests. This is also the first loss for them at the Gabba in three pink ball Tests.

- This is the first win for the West Indies at the Gabba in six Tests since 1988, coming after 36 long years. From 1990 to 2020, Australia had not lost a single Test match at this venue in 31 attempts but since 2021 they have lost twice in four Tests.

- This is the first time in 10 attempts that West Indies have not lost a Test series against Australia. The last time they drew a series was in 1999 when Australia toured Caribbean. This is also the first time West Indies have not lost a series on Australian soil since their 2-1 win in 1992/93.

- The 8-run victory by West Indies against Australia is the smallest margin of win for a team in a day-night Test match. The previous lowest was Australia's 39-run win against Pakistan at the same venue in 2016.

- Australia had declared their first innings on 289/9, the fourth time they have lost a Test match after declaring their first innings. The previous defeat for them came against India at Hyderabad in 2013 when they had declared their innings on 237/9.
