Popping in briefly to say this is a story that needed to be told. It's not 32000 girls, but it wasn't just 3 girls either. I happen to know the family of one of the girls. They disowned her when she married a Muslim guy. I wish they didn't. Maybe they could've picked up something was going on and stopped it. She went to Syria. Husband got killed. Indian govt refused to take her back. She and her son are in a Saudi prison. Her parents also refused to take her back (even emotionally). Not sure if the son is now with in-laws who live in Bangalore. But she is still in prison. (Her religion shouldn't matter, but she was Christian)
Problem is calling it the Kerala Story feels like some elements are using this as a weapon to bash Kerala for not supporting a certain political view.
It's being touted as an example for people to look at so they can save their own girls.
How about this for Kerala story for the same filmmakers to make so other communities can #saveourgirls?

Bottomline is Kerala has a reputation of religious harmony. Yes, the Hindus who are still in the majority (54%) deserve a lot of credit for this.
But so do the communists. I am no supporter of communism, but they did force some much-needed reforms after Vivekananda called Kerala a lunatic asylum for its casteism. The RW here might not believe it, but the OG Malayali communist leaders were actually upper-caste Hindus who were sick and tired of seeing the supposed *lower* castes treated like crap. Not because they were *more* intellectual, but because they recognized they held the power in institutions and society and used that power to break the system.
Their attempt to fit human psychology into their utopian vision of egalitarian society was bound to fail as it did everywhere it has been tried. Socialism has never worked and will never work because humans are not drones. Still, credit where it is due.
The RW's peeve with Kerala is not about communism. It is that most of the state sees themselves as Malayali first rather than Hindu, Christian, or Muslim. When I lived there, I went to the temple for festivals. My friends came to church with me. I didn't go to the mosque, but I went to my friends' parties and stuffed my face for Eid.
When peeps don't define themselves by religion first, it's a little difficult to divide and rule by religion. So the attacks.

Kerala won't be swayed by this. Malayalis and those of Malayali origin have long memories of what the RW center did in 2018. The way the state came together is the real Kerala story.
However, if the RW is attacking Kerala, jihadis are also attacking Kerala. Their tactics are way more underhanded, and the results are infinitely heartbreaking. It should not be ignored.
As with Kashmir Files, when reasonable people refuse to tell a story that needs to be told, the bigots will tell it. Please pay attention to the very real problem of these jihadis infiltrating what used to be God's own country.
