 Mumbai Indians had just sauntered to a target of 200 in a wink - in just about 16 overs that is. That was a high-speed chase against bowlers of the calibre of Josh Hazlewood, Mohammed Siraj, Wanindu Hasaranga and Harshal Patel.

Gujarat Titans have been the team to beat in IPL 2023 with eight wins in 11 matches. Both their batting and bowling units have fired in unison. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians are in top form coming into the game with three wins in their last four matches. 

While their bowling unit has not been consistent, Mumbai’s batting has been sensational of late.

At present, the Mumbai Indians find themselves occupying the third position on the points table for this season’s IPL, while the Gujarat Titans sit comfortably at the top of the table.

Throughout the IPL, the Mumbai Indians have played eleven matches, winning six of those games. 

On the Other hand, the Gujarat Titans have also played eleven matches and achieved an impressive record of eight victories.

Ishan Kishan has been brilliant of late for the Mumbai Indians, coming up with impactful knocks at the top of the order. Ishan has 335 runs in 11 matches at an average of 30.45.

MI vs GT IPL 2023 Match 57 Pitch Report: 

The pitch at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai is known to help for batsmen, providing ample support for them during the entirety of the game. The boundaries are relatively short and the outfield is quick, creating favorable conditions for high-scoring matches. Conversely, the surface offers very little assistance to bowlers, particularly in the early stages of the game.

As the game progresses, there may be some assistance for the pacers, but this is limited. In light of these conditions, the team that wins the toss is likely to choose to chase at this venue.

The pitch at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium offers a batting-friendly surface with short boundaries. The average first innings score here is 169 runs after 107 IPL matches with teams batting second winning 58 games so far. However, the venue has witnessed five 200-plus totals in the last six innings in IPL 2023 so, any total will not be safe here on Friday.

Rohit Sharma aggregates 12 runs in the last five innings (2,3,0,0,7) and five times in 27 balls. 

His record doesn't look great against Gujarat either. His match-up against Rashid reads three dismissals in 21 balls with just 23 runs. 

That is, if he actually survives until Rashid comes on, because his match-up against Shami isn't great either - 57 off 51 balls with two dismissals. 

Ishan Kishan has never been dismissed by Shami but that doesn't mean he doesn't struggle, having scored 42 off 45 balls, at a strike rate of 93.33.

A settled side, the Titans mostly went with continuity rather than change. Any change to the XI will only have to be forced rather than experimental, and on the eve of the game there have been no signs of any changes.

In head-to-head encounters in IPL, MI and GT have only played two games so far- one in the last season and one game in this season. While GT won the match in this season, MI won the encounter in the last season.

The in-form opener smashed unbeaten 94 off just 51 with the help of 10 fours and four sixes against Lucknow Super Giants in the last game. Gill also recorded 56 off just 34 against Mumbai Indians in the last encounter between the two teams last month. He currently leads the scoring chart for Gujarat Titans with 469 runs from 11 innings at a strike rate of 143.42 and is third in the top-scorers chart in IPL 2023.

The veteran Indian spinner failed to get any wickets against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the last game but has been Mumbai's best bowler this season. Chawla was excellent against Gujarat Titans in the first-leg clash as he took two wickets and scored 18 off 12. He is competing for the Purple Cap this season with 17 wickets from 11 matches and is only four wickets behind leader Yuzvendra Chahal.

Just a week ago, it seemed like Mumbai would struggle to breach the playoff spots. But now they find themselves with a realistic chance of finishing in the top two if they win their remaining games and hope that the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) slip up.

The Titans have won four of their last five league matches and have been the standout team in the competition. Their lethal bowling unit presents an excellent contrast of styles against MI, who cannot possibly match GT in that department.

The last time the two teams met in IPL 2023, Gujarat hammered Mumbai by a whopping 55 runs in Ahmedabad. Abhinav Manohar's fiery cameo, combined with important knocks from Shubman Gill and David Miller, set the tone for the home side. Noor Ahmad and Rashid Khan then scalped a combined five wickets.
