Technically Madhuri is from 80s.

But from peak POV, I would choose Madhuri as she was all rounder.

Followed by Kajol and Tabu in terms of talent.

Urmila improved as an actor only in 2000s but as a sex symbol she is totally right up there with likes of Zeenat in all time lists.

One more name I'd add is Divya Bharti. In just about a year, she did over 10 films and rose to stardom. I've never seen any actress rise to the top in such a short amount of time as she did. The craze for her was unreal. She had the screen presence, she could act and dance, and she was gorgeous. If not for her death she would have undoubtedly ruled the 90s.

Hey where is Karisma? She owned the 2nd half of 90s and she is not listed..definitely made a bigger impact with her performances and BO than half of those listed..

This forum has habit of ignoring Lolo and her sheer success from Raja Hindustani onwards.

Lolo easily put Madhuri in retirement mode.

Hits in 1996 cemented her position. Jeet, Raja Hindustani, Coolie no1, Saajan Chale Sasural, Rakshak etc.

Karishma had both class and mass audience eating out of her hands and gave hits like Biwi no.1, HSSH, in 1999 also.

Had she not cut down on work and not chosen craps like Shakti or Baaz, she would have given more hits.

Sadly an abusive marriage marred her looks and career.

She is not that media savvy either. It is sad she is not listed in the poll on 90s actresses or nowadays Shilpa, Sonali are more known online than her.

It is shocking how star of most prominent hits and chartbuster songs of 90s from Raja Babu, Jigar, Coolie no1, Hero no1, DTPH, Raja Hindustani, Jeet, Saajan chale sasural, Rakshak, Anari, HSSH, Dulhan Hum le jayenge, Biwi no1, Zubeida, Fiza etc and one who gave hits with every hero from Khans to Akki, Ajay, Sunil, Govinda is easily erased out of discussions on 90s and even likes of Shilpa, Sonali, Urmila type has beens are included over her.
