Social media and the rise of trolls

It's almost like social media has given birth to a new species - the troll. These creatures come in all shapes and sizes, from the sneaky anonymous ones hiding behind fake profiles to the bold ones who use their real identities to stir up some trouble.

The anonymity and distance provided by social media platforms can make it easier for individuals to engage in trolling behavior without facing consequences for their actions. Additionally, social media algorithms that prioritize engagement and user activity can incentivize trolling behavior by rewarding those who generate the most reactions.

There's a difference between constructive criticism and trolling. But the latter is more prevalent.

So, while social media companies have tried to fight back with policies against hate speech and harassment, the problem persists.

What do YOU think about this phenomenon?

There are also those who likes to poke unprovoked. You will be minding your own business, talking about your favourite & they will somehow insert themselves & then play the ultimate victim when you put them in their place. Tackling one on YT right now. So annoying.

Quoting an excerpt of what I wrote about the internet on 06/23/12

"The internet is our Lord of the Flies. It is a vast uninhabited island, and we are the lost boys who suddenly washed ashore one day. It was a land with no rules, no civilization, and no discipline. We had to start society from scratch.

But then there was the matter of the beast. The deadly dangerous beast that threatens us. The deadly and dangerous beast that must be destroyed. But the beast doesn’t exist anywhere other than the fears and evils of our own minds.

Without civilization, it doesn’t take long for the beast to take control and bring out our savagery. In real life, we know how words hurt; we see the tears in people's eyes, and we know the consequences of mistakes and would never dare to say or do some things.

But without all that, it is just our own savage island. We killed Simon (goodness) and Piggy (reason). And now Ralph (humanity) survives in hope, perhaps false hope, that someway somehow he will be rescued from the savages of Jack (the trolls, the flamers, the bullies, the low lives who know nothing but hurting and abusing)."

Trolls are everywhere, in real life, forums and social media. Some people just love to make nasty remarks and hate on each and everything. If they find you praising someone they hate, they start abusing you and insulting. Happens even on this forum but due to moderation, it's limited while on social media, there are death threats and all sorts of negativity due to which many influencers and celebs have gone into depression. There needs to be a law or some sort of moderation to limit these soulless people.
