Thank you for the tag. I have to say the whole poem part was beyond my expectations and it’s rare to see such an execution in ITV. From the writing to the execution on screen, it was just magical. ❤️ I felt the shivers, the truth, and the happiness about the persistence and existence of love. There are just so many emotions that I felt that I cannot express through words. For me, it was all about finding and believing in hope. Hope that love exists, hope that relationships can be mended, hope that there is something beautiful waiting to happen to everyone. Each and every line of the poem is special for me. While I am still trying to understand some of it, reading everyone’s interpretation about it really increases my appreciation for the way it was written and executed. The more I understand each and every word of it, the more inspiration and elation I receive from it because every word has so much value and it’s much deeper than just some words put together into a poem. Thank you for such a wonderful write up columbia!😊
I felt the same, my friend.
May be unpopular opinion, I don't know if he is in love😲. He had a child like fascination about her, how she faced life when she was dealt with the direst of circumstances, how she could form relationships with each and everybody around her, pyaar se, patience se, openness se and giving a piece of herself. Just look at how she even let him into her circle, a guy who was never supposed to be forgiven for the worst judgment he made of her when she was the most vulnerable. She never let go off her dignity, but once she processed her own feelings about the whole debacle, she understood that he was breaking, there is more to this man than the guy will poor judgment and is willing to hear him out.
It is as if a bright light is shone in his face which is shrouded in darkness of his house, his upbringing, him dealing with his past and his mother. Katha is like a window who opened him to a wide and colorful world, where he found hope for a normal life out of his own darkness. The way he asked her questions about specific things, how he dealt with her tragedy, impossible circumstances of Aarav's illness and still can find courage and fiber in her to empathize with Dodo or Viaan himself
I loved the hope in the lines of " hote hongey". He craved for a normal life for himself, rather than mystery, darkness, rumination, bitterness etc. and ironically as he hoped before, Katha indeed has become that bridge between his dark thoughts, past and hopefully a normal future👍🏼I think he is at this point now, filled with gratitude, adoration and fascination for this strong and lively woman😃who faced so many personal tragedies, but didn't lose her sensitivity or her zeal to live to the fullest.
Love how both the characters have shaped up, Katha and Viaan❤️.
Sorry can't help this, to whoever thought that they could be Viaan, let me just say this, we have the best Viaan possible, nobody else's services are needed 😃 I think Mango, Letha, Shalzie and G know my bitterness. Kya karein, my brain digs out all kinds of dirt😃 Sorry Twinkle ji and Columbia in advance😳I will shut up now🤔
Hey mili, about Katha asking viaan not wait:
I think she understood that he's in love so asked him not to wait to tell that person, to confess.
Thank you, Enola. I can see now, how Katha is advising him not to wait for the right moment and planetary alignment. Since life is unpredictable, she is asking him to take action when he feels such an emotion. Perfectly makes sense❤️ This is what I love about these discussions, somebody says something in a way that everything makes sense❤️
Columbia, never thanked you for such an amazing and deep interpretation of the poem. I must admit, I understood the gist of it, but the way you have interpreted gave another layer to such a beautiful writingThank you.
Thank you Columbia for this lovely interpretation of the poem.
I understood the gist of it, but this interpretation gave a new dimension to it.
A big thank you for that.🤗
I think this is not just one of his journey of love through hope and forgiveness.
I think it’s also about acceptance of all the things in his life.
The way he asks Katha that how she didn’t give, how did she still go through and live each day even after losing her husband and knowing her child is battling a life threatening illness etc..
Because probably he is also trying to understand why and how can his mother still love her husband so much which has actually filled their life with darkness for all these years.
The firefly is the little light in his dark life.
He probably knows a firefly doesn’t last very long, so he is hoping there will be more which will give him light.
And if not firefly, maybe the moonlight will then lighten up his dark world and give him the slight hope that dawn is just about the corner and he needs to hold just a bit longer to have that peace and tranquility towards the other side of life that Katha has shown him.
I remembered a quote from Dead Poets society after reading this:
When you read,
Don't just consider what the author thinks, consider what you think.

Thanks for the tag dear 😃
As for the chai wala line even i dont consider it forgiveness ,rather it was an indication for future that maybe the perception(katha's) can change like this
And i think Vian was happy and relieved bcoz Katha behaved nicely despite the mention of test/ons

Hi Shalzie, thank you so much. I agree it’s a beautifully shot scene and frankly we feel his poem even if we didn’t understand it.
I must warn you though, this isn’t a translation but an attempt to understand the nuance - more like an interpretation of the poem - by it structure, the use of words shaam to raat (evening to night) to tell us this is Viaan’s journey of emotions,,, I will try and literally translate but I fear lot is lost in that, hence tried to do a post interpreting it.
@bold - uou ahve no idea how much I loved exactly the same things you did and I love how you said a man can express….that’s exactly it…for a man who was so screwed up…in more ways than one,,,.he just loosened and then gave up those screws…and let himself breathe…initially he was choking himself, then little by little loosened the screws and took his breaths through those gaps, now that the screws are removed, he lives to love.
As for your chai Q - here is my interpretation
the line is “chai ke baare mein aapka negative nazare badal toh gaya" and this comes after his explanation of how he had a negative attitude towards women because of his past. The line comes from Katha…which literally translated means“Your negative perspective on tea did change” …. But to come to understand this line, we must first understand the lines that were told before and after these lines…the following are the lines after Viaan said that he used to test every woman because he thought they would do anything for money…then he says…
“kitna galat tha mai ..ek aadat ban gayi thi meri…logon ko, duniya ko bura samajhne ki,,mai saari chizei negative nazariye se dekhne lagaa..who am I to judge anybody?”
how wrong was I…I got into a habit of looking at people and world around me through this negative lens…who am I to judge anyone?“Chaliye, chai ke baare mei aapka aaj negative nazariya tou badal hi gaya…….. jab man mei kadvahat hoti hai, hum kissiko maaf nahi kar paate aur naahi aas paas pyaar dekh paate, voh kehte hai na, pyaar kab kaha Kaise mil jaaye..kya Pata?..buss pehchaan vaali nazar honi chahiye, Jaise Aapne rabri chai ko pehchaan liyaa”
well, at least today, you were able to change your negative perspective on the chai.
When we are filled with bitterness, we are unable to forgive, we can’t find love around us, nothing evokes it, we won’t be able to even see it. But love comes from strange quarters, we just have to keep an open perspective (pehchaan vaali nazar literally translates to a view(point) that can recognize love) …Just like today you recognized it in the rabri chai (since he was the one who recognized that all the tea needed was less sugar to make it perfect)
Many viewers interpreted this as Kathaa forgiving Viaan. I didn’t, in the sense, it’s not a straight line …forgiveness is also a journey. What she has done is open the window to understand that he has the capacity to not be negative, she has acknowledged that he can be that person….and for him that was more than enough.
Now look the at poem from this angle, it makes so much more sense…the firefly that Kathaa has lit, was enough, the window she opened was enough, her words were enough…for him to believe in himself.Sorry for this long long….reply
No need to apologise for the long reply. I belong in the same category. I need to put down my thoughts and feelings.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your interpretation of both scenes. I also like your perspective in respect of the forgiveness, which is not one according to you. This is the beauty of the show for me. When it started, the CVs invested much time in showing parallels and contrasts for many scenes. I used to love those! This show is like reading a book at times. The silence between Kaviaan, the lack of monologue from Katha....they all give you the space to have your own interpretation. No one is telling you that you should feel a certain way. No one is portraying anyone as outright negative or positive. I feel like the writer/s is/are a bunch of mature sensible people who have experienced life. They do the unexpected but I relate to how most characters react in scenes for I find these very similar to how life unfolds in real.
Like Viaan, I like the fact that Katha has started speaking to him. Guilt is a heavy burden. How can there be any improvement/redemption without any lessening of the load? Most people spend their lives feeling guilty or pushing it aside without actually doing anything to earn forgiveness. Here we have Viaan who started on this journey....not because of Katha but because he had the courage to observe, analyse and ultimately conclude that he was wrong. Due to his upbringing, all odds were stacked against him actually realising that his whole POV was wrong. But this show doesn't limit itself to gender stereotypes. Men can feel, can be wrong, and can cry and can still come across as strong! What is strength? Such a refreshing change from what we have been shown in so many shows. I am enjoying these changes. I saw Aryan in Imlie and now Viaan in KA. I absolutely love these characters!
I felt the same, my friend.

high five! you are not alone!
I didn't feel any of the couple scenes this week. given how deep and long lasting his emotional wounds are, I couldn't relate to it being all subtle and muted. as I kept saying in DT, he had to be a live wire and he hasn't processed the heart of his wounds -- how he feels about his father leaving and how to emotionally protect himself. he is someone who feels very deeply. so things being so subtle and him not doing his hand dance seem out of place. 😆
for me, till he figures out those things causing his wounds, then it is more like attraction or infatuation -- I can't see it going far when he doesn't have any sense of peace or acceptance towards his childhood trauma. he is petrified of being like his father and so he is not comfortable with himself as a man on some level.
I can't see his opinion of women really maturing unless he has those arguments and conflicts with nightie mama -- he has to push back and stop babying her. he has to challenge her on why she jumps and calls every woman as gold digger when they don't jump to her bidding. he has to stop apologizing and make her accountable.
until they get out those bitter words and thoughts in his heart, I can't see him truly connecting to someone because a part of him will always try to protect himself and go on a path of self-sabotage. right now, he has some rosy view of mothers and so he sees katha too in that same light. but she is also a woman and she did take money from him.
lets not forget, nightie mama is full on psycho and toxic. there is no way she will allow her son to fall in love. she will sabotage it by playing mind games and being herself -- so how can he really fall in love when she is giving him utterly messed up lessons on what love looks like?
for many, falling in love isn't the hard bit, how to stay connected is harder. will he allow himself to truly fall in love when he hasn't made peace with his past? when love actually looks toxic and harmful if he sees what it did to his mother? when love is the reason his father left?
I am not sure of the answer. like you said, he is fascinated by her but now he feels hopeful because she let him in as a friend but is that more? maybe not yet...
also, am not a poetry person in general and so I don't really feel it even when I know the language. here, my hindi is only good enough to understand regular conversation. so I pretty much skipped the scenes. I read everyone's post and feels and still have no idea what he said exactly.
but then again, I am just distracted by real life stuff in general and so perhaps, thats why am not really feeling the drama this week. 🤷

Mili, this is why I miss you when you are not around!
Bold: you find words for all the things which I feel but do not find the words at times! You connected the relationship between the darkness and light in Viaan's life so beautifully.
Viaan did not know about Katha's past...yet he was always drawn to her spirit, light and subtle strength which emanates from her. Now he is intrigued and curious because here you have another woman who lost her husband and is bringing up a son all on her own. This woman is full of life, laughter, hope and positivity. She is not blaming life or circumstances for her situation. She simply goes on. How can Viaan not subconsciously compare Katha to his mother? How can Viaan not start asking the questions? For me, Katha is the trigger in Viaan's life to start his journey of self-healing. The path will not be easy....especially when you have a manipulative and emotionally weak mother. A son cannot leave his mother so the son will also have to find a way to show the path to his mother. I am so looking forward to see this story unfold.
Mili, I intend to watch the show again afterwards. This is a show which I want to appreciate and keep in my memories. These are characters whom I want to remember. For me, this story is about Viaan....his journey from being broken to walking towards the light.
I totally cracked up on reading your last paragraph🤣I am not one who believes in the Ifs of life. Bitter are those who draw attention to the ifs of life to gain any sort of appreciation or merit. I saw the article and my immediate reaction was 'so what?'...Viaan belongs to Adnan. I liked Adnan from Ishq Subhan Allah. I didn't follow the show but definitely noticed Adnan. Through his portrayal of Viaan, I have fallen in love with Adnan the actor. I love watching him on screen...the way he emotes, his goofiness in his scenes with Aarav especially, his sensitive side, the transition to a very confident man when he puts on his suit of Earth Con's boss, his despair when he breaks down and I can go on and on! Kudos to Adnan for daring to take on a very challenging role! Anyone can be a vampire but few can actually make people fall in love with the character who proposed a ONS to the FL at her lowest and most vulnerable phase!

Your points are valid M😊
Having dealt with broken people, and been through my own share of adversities, I do understand your points. But the romantic in me also appreciates that the attraction/awareness will start this love story which will mostly centre on Viaan's healing and Katha's acceptance of second chance at love. Using the word love is easier at times.
I don't know whether I am going to use the right word but upon reading the previous post where you tagged me and which I didn't get around to replying, I felt like you missed the ugly and rawness of the emotions. Grace usually comes afterwards...after learning the lesson, and accepting your part in it. ITV comes with its own constraints but part of me is hopeful that writers will address your points.
Some shows/characters act as catharsis. Viaan is one such character for me as he gives me the perspective of the one who has wronged. I am invested in his journey.
