What do you folks think about this???
Superstar era has never ended and never will. Every few decades we have a new superstar. People love their own set of icons.
They cling to them. Feel invested in them and love or hate someone with a passion and check out their work or buy products or attend an event just for presence of that person.
Khans, HR, Ajay, Akki, RS, RK all have it. So do Alia, Deepika, Kat etc. AB is still attracting TRPs for Sony single handedly through KBC. Charisma and appeal do matter.
However as choices of viewers increase, the stars will have to focus more on content too and cannot just take fandom for granted.
One entertaining, well promoted film with good cast released at right time and the BO is set on fire again. Flops and low phases are part of every star's career. It depends on how stars overcome it and reinvent self.
The industry has gone through phases of flops before. I heard Aankhen saved Bollywood from bankruptcy in 1993. The industry was in a far worse condition from what I know.
There will always be stars and people who worship them. But never to the same extent at least in Bollywood. Over exposure in social media, paparazzi,Koffee with Karan and ads have killed any trace of the mystique about them. With the boycott campaign there's a level of contempt about the new stars whether it be the nepo brigade or non-nepos. So no more super stars for the forseeable future.
The overexposure part is true. Today's newcomers are mostly plastic nepo kids. Also stupid and look entitled AF, make duffer statements. They look like influencers given their lot of SM updates, appearing on all Tik Tok, Insta, YouTube channels and podcasts. They have no uniqueness or talent. Sorry but I find nothing special in Jhanvi, Nysa, Khushi, Suhana and Sara is not improving her acting. The nepo kids of today have no talent like Tabu or Kajol, Rani or Hrithik who were also nepo kids. Nor effortless glamour like Raveena, Kareena or young Salman nor cuteness of young Aamir and Saif.
Their worst part is that they all look and sound alike and seem to have same stylist, same PR, same plastic surgeon, same make up dada, same designer.
Nothing differentiates them.
There is NOT a single outsider who has confidence of young SRK or effervescent like young Preity or beauty like Ash or charisma like Sushmita or Katrina.
There are no villains like Amrish Puri, forget Gulshan Grover or Shakti Kapoor.
They are all known more for interviews or social media or personal life or politics or controversies than any film.
So the aura and fascination with previous stars is just not there now.
