This year, in @kunalkarankapoor 's name and to celebrate his birthday, fans got together to feed around 120 families in Kasturba Gram Kusht (leprosy) Aashram.
It an Aashram, which has around 320 people leaving there with a disease called Leprosy. It’s a separate colony for them, like how chawls are in Mumbai.
People believe that the disease spreads with being in contact, so nobody lives with them or employs them.
What they told us....
This society was registered in 1976. The government helped in building the homes for them but after that, there is no help from the government. Just the monthly pension of 1800 to the more severe patients. Some NGOs help them or people who donate.
They also shared that their children don't have this disease, but they have to hide their address at school and have to get married to families, with the same condition.
Just imagine what the kids are going through and how quickly they have to grow up.
* How must it feel as a child, when you have to hide who you are and where you are coming from??
*Isolation and having parents that are missing a part of their body as a leg and fingers.
*Maybe even the fear of becoming like their parents??
If you would like to help them the address is: Kasturba Gram Kusht Ashram, Taharpur, Delhi. Contact: 9560977483
Beside this Ashram there are around 28 colonies in the area and it is the biggest leprosy complex in Asia.
I would like to thank all the fans, who make this possible every year and special thanks to one fan, who not only makes this possible, but take time out to go out there and meet these people ❤️
