kuch bhi karke ek waaris (ladka only) paida karlo. Except Jayesh Bhai & his daughter, sabke ek hi ajenda hain including female lead “waris hona zarori hain”
Don't even get me started on HDDCS. The movie was as regressive as it can get, I mean even after all these years it's still debated over and I still don't like the fact that she chose to stay with her husband, felt so bad for Salman's character 😭 Namastey London is another problematic film, surely it's entertaining and has all the tropes of a full fledged masala movie, but it does glorify the concept of forced marriages as well. Jazz was an entitled brat but her father's outdated mentality didn't sit well with me. She was born and brought up in a foreign land, and he expected her to forget all that and marry a villager because guess what? She couldn't get a more better guy and a better home He literally forced and emotionally blackmailed her into marrying Akshay, now Akshay was indeed a nice guy but he didn't even bother asking her if she was okay with this wedding in the first place because he was completely besotted with her, so yeah that movie had some objectionable stuff as well. Imagine your parents taking you for a holiday in their homeland where you have never even set foot before, then fooling you into seeing "prospective grooms" without your consent, and finally getting you married to a complete stranger who is completely different from you in every aspect, a culture and environment you are completely alien to, it's a scary af situation if you ask me, Jazz should have just ran away. You know what pisses the crap out of me is films like HDDCS, Namaste London, ninnu kori (telugu), mouna ragam (Tamil)
I know these are all hits and well acclaimed movies in their industries but I hate hate the fact that they romanticised forced marriages
Not arranged, forced
The bride is legit depressed or crying on her wedding day and no one gives a shit or has the sense to call it off and give her time to heal or deal with her emotions/ breakups ….
Coz in the end they show that guy she married is a “gem” so elders must always be right when they force u into a marriage rite? NO
There are many but i will name a recent
Its bhool bhulaiya 2. Where it is shown good girls apparently do sober/light makeups and girls who do bold makeups are witches/evil
There are so many especially if I think about the movies made in 90's.. I seriously hated those story line with rape and making those women marry their rapist, also the forced marriage where parents choice are always right.
All movies with forced marriages n marry the rapist r downrightly so regressive.
Another one in same leage is Bulandi. The dialogues n scenes r so cringe u feel like hitting the actors for doing such a movie.
In that movie too shakri kapoor rapes a village girl n he is married to her n he with his whole family n bride r outcasted from village.
Aruna Irani mother of shakti Kapoor is dying if thirst but no one gives her water n anil kapoor indirectly helps her. Totally inhuman scene.
Raveena being a modern girl points out many wrong things but is made to look like a villain.
Rekha is so regressive in movie having mentality of women inferior to men n claims herself to be educated n sanskari.
HAHK would've been truly regressive had Nisha's parents forced her into marrying Rajesh, but that didn't happen.
Nisha was simply ASKED if she will be filling to marry Rajesh, and she couldn't hide "over excitement" thinking they are asking her to get married to Prem.
It was classic Bollywood confusion scenario, but it doesn't make the film "regressive", per my opinion.
It's just the families were dumb enough to NOT let Rajesh and Nisha talk with each other even once before marriage, and then Prem and Nisha were even dumber for not pointing out the confusion to their families.
Towards the end of the film, Rajesh even asks Nisha, would she love the kid a bit lesser as his "chachi"?
It shows that nobody was "regressive" in the film, except maybe Bindu's character. But even she was shown in a grey light and then gets redeemed towards the end of the film.
(Lol, she even miraculously gets pregnant😆🤣)
On topic, there are so many films that were downright pathetic...and not just in the 90s. Regressive films exist even today.😵

Oh man... Bulandi was CRAP. I re-watched a few scenes recently on Youtube and and my I almost vomited at the dialogues.🤢
For example this scene.

yessss..,rishi’s character in namaste London is loathsome…it’s like his wife also says once how he made her feel inferior coz she was a gawaar and didn’t work and wasn’t fasionable and didn’t speak English ….but he wanted to live abroad and make money so his dad Wife lived her life feeling inferior and out of place …..now he goes and marries his daughter to someone exactly like his wife so they can be as unhappy 🤦♀️
HDDCS too …the whole arc where ash’s cousin is forced to go back to her abusive marriage just coz her dad screams a bit louder than everyone else ….ajay being completely tone deaf to her obvious disinterest in the marriage and wanting to consummate her relationship asap when she said she wasn’t interested ….that scene where he’s trying to get intimate with her makes me cringe so bad ….like imagine being ash there …every girls nightmare …
And I’ll even mention kal hi na ho here …it’s not as problematic but why does aman HAVE to find Naina someone else to love in his absence? Why does he have to play good in their lives and manufacture their relationship ? Can’t he just let things be and rohit and naina will eventually maybe get together once naina is over him?
no….he has to get her married asap like it’s a national crisis while she’s bawling her eyes out coz her first love is dying ..,,
Let . Women . Breathe …
Why the urgent shaadis when they are not in the mood?
