Malini i feel is a case of changing the complete character trajectory... And not a case of butchering.. We had what 100 episodes of negative malini... 

Having aryan hurt imlie at her weakest point and then project him like the best hubby, that would be butchering... Where you pretend your character is one thing but actually he acts in another way just to accommodate the drama. 

Galat karna hai toh poora galat karo...

Oh, i am not defending the shoddy writing at all. This entire track is so stupid. But Aru is their bread and makkhan. They ain't touching him.

Spot on. This is kind of anti thesis to wedding track where imlie is hurt and spouting nonsense at him, it didn't change anything between them then, it wouldn't now.
