I think the current singers are busy with live concerts and other things and may not be too excited about reality shows. For the older acts this is one way to relive their glory days.

Idol does invite sometimes.
They have a routine of inviting current singers at the Grand Audition and Grand Finale to sing with contestants.
As guests last season they had AR Rehman, Sukhwinder, Honey Singh, Guru R and Badshah. Can't remember if they had anyone else who qualifies.
But there are channel loyalty issues which restricts some appearances and conflicts. So singers like Sonu, Sunidhi don't show up. Shreya never does these days unless it is a Bengali show, ditto Arijit . The rest don't match up to the judges in terms of stature and can come only as performers.
