Part 11
Atul was sitting at the table for breakfast when Malhar came out of his room.
He looked ready to go somewhere.
"Malhar..!! Aao tum bhi baito..kahin jaa rahe ho kya?"
"Ji Baba…!! Woh mujhe Kuch kaam tha.."
"Are toh nashta karke jao..."
"Nahi..nahi..!! Mai…"
"Please baitiye na Malhar…", Kalyani said and set a plate for him.
Malhar quietly sat down. Kalyani was about to serve her dad when he stopped her.
"Apne pati ko pehle paroso…!! tumhari Aai hoti toh ye sab woh sikha deti tumhe…!! aur ye kya Malhar.. Malhar laga rakha hai…!! Jabse aaya hun yahi sun raha hun mai..!! Are thode izzat se…!! pyaar se…!! Aaho…bulao…!! Pata hai na teri Aai mujhe aise hi bulati thi…!!"
"Papa…!!" Kalyani squeaked, her cheeks turned pink.
Malhar's mouth felt dry and he grabbed the glass of water in front of him and began sipping and staring into the water.
"Khade…khade…Mera muh kya dekh rahi ho..!! bulao…!! Aur pyar se paroso use…"
"A..aa..h..ho..!!", Kalyani stuttered and was about to serve breakfast on his plate.
Malhar gulped the water in a hurry and sputtered into the glass as he got hiccups.
"Kalyani…ab ye bhi mujhe samjhana padega…? Dekho use kaise hichki aa rahi hai… thodi uski madad karo…", Her dad clucked his tongue.
Kalyani gently patted his head.
Malhar was at a loss of words, Baba ko ho kya gaya hai…!! Kalyani kitni uncomfortable feel kar rahi hogi..
He quickly got up from the chair, "Mujhe der ho rahi hai…!! Mai… nikalta hun..!!"
Not waiting for a reply, he quickly dashed out.
Kalyani glared at her dad, "Kya kar rahe the aap Papa..?"
Atul was cool, "Maine kya kiya..?"
"Acha..!! Aapne kya kiya…? Bhaga diya na aapne Malhar ko…!!"
"Maine…? Nahi toh…!! Mai toh bas koshish kar raha tha ki use halke se sanket dun…taaki woh samajh paaye ki tum thodi bohot sudhar gayi ho…"
"Really…!! Lekin aapne toh unhe dara hi diya…bechare nashta kiye bina chale gaye…"
"Wah…!! Tumhe toh sach me badi fikar ho rahi hai uski..!!! Dekhke acha lag raha hai..!!"
"Bas haan Papa…!! Bohot maza aa raha hai na aapko….!!! Teekh hai….!! Aap khud akele baitke nashta kijiye…Mujhe office jana hai..Mai apna bag lekar aati hun.…!!", Kalyani walked towards her room.
"Jaldi wapas aana…mujhe aaj shaam ko jaana bhi hai…"
"Ok.. abhi nashta kijiye...!!"
Atul chuckled at his daughter's retreating back, "Waise tumhe apne pati ko puchna chahiye tha ki woh kahan jaa raha hai… wapas kab aayega…Tchu…!! Pata nahi Tumhe aur kya kya sikhana hoga…!!"
Kalyani came out of her room and banged her bag on the table, "Jo bhi seekhna ho mai khud seekh lungi… aap jyada sochiye mat…"
Atul laughed loudly, annoying her to the core and she left for work not wanting to have an argument.
The moment Kalyani entered her office, she was swarmed by colleagues and bombarded with questions.
Of Course she had to make up a nice tale of how their wedding had taken place suddenly. She was left alone only after a promise of a treat.
"Ok..ok…!!! Sab log shant…!! Aaj ki lunch meri treat…!!"
"Oh hello madam…!!! Ye nahi chalega…we want a proper intro…!!" Nikita said.
"Exactly…Are hum kaunsa roz roz Assistant Commissioner se mil sakte hain….!!", Reena seconded.
"Kalyani ji…hume feeki si treat nahi… ACP Saab ke saat lunch party chahiye…!! Kyun guys…?", Varun joined in.
"Acha…!!! Toh sab log wait karte rahiye…jab ACP saab apne kaam se free honge..tab sochenge..!! Jaake apna apna kaam kijiye…!! hunh..!!" Kalyani rolled her eyes at them.
"Are lekin Kalyani…Tumne toh kal kaha tha ki woh medical leave pe hai…toh aaj hi bula lo…!!!", Varun reminded her.
"Hmm…ye sab yaad rakho…!! Lekin clients ko promise kiya hua delivery dates yaad nahi rehte tumhe…!!"
"Woh sab taane baad me maar lena…abhi phone karo apne hubby ko aur lunch pe bulao…", Reena brought her back to topic.
"Nahi..nahi..aaj nahi..hum phir kabhi plan karte hain…", Kalyani tried to evade it.
"Kyun…?"
"Are nahi aayenge…mujhe pata hai…"
"Gussa karenge…?" Someone teased.
"Are ye bahane bana Rahi hai…Mai kal Mila na Malhar se…Kitne sweet the.." Varun bubbled in excitement.
"Varun tum toh jaante ho unhe…Kalyani ke phone se tum hi call kar do aur invite karo…", Reena said.
Varun held out his hand, "Kalyani… number nikalke do…!!"
Kalyani sighed. These people were not going to let her go.
Varun called, "Hello…!! Malhar..!! Mai Varun…hum kal mile the…!! Haan right ..!! Woh…aap thoda jaldi office aa sakte hain..? Actually Kalyani behosh ho gayi hai…!!...hmm.. Ok..thank you…!! See you soon.."
He ended the call, "Abhi dekho kaise daudthe hue aayenge ACP Saab…"
Kalyani got angry, "Ye Kya bakwaas tha Varun...jhut kyun bola tumne…!! are bekaar ki tension hogi na unhe…this is not funny…!! Phone do mujhe…!!"
Kalyani plucked the phone out of Varun's hand and called her husband.
"Hello…!! haan mai jaldi aa raha hun…!! Aap doctor ko bula lijiye please.."
Kalyani's eyes teared, "Malhar….!! Mai Kalyani hi bol rahi hun…!!"
"Kalyani…lekin…!! Usne kaha…!!"
"Jhoot bola usne…mujhe kuch nahi hua hai…aap please ghabraiye mat…aur aise hadbadi me mat aaiye.."
"Tum sach me teekh ho na…?"
"Haan…!!"
"Ok..!!"
"Varun ke taraf se I'm sorry…woh actually mere colleagues aapko aaj lunch pe invite karna chahte hain..
Kya aap aa sakte hain…?"
"Lekin..kyun…?"
"Bas hamari shaadi ki treat chahiye unhe…aayenge na..?"
"Kitne baje..!!"
"1.30..!! Office me hi…"
"Ok..!! See you…uh…mujhe kuch laana hoga..?"
"Nahi…!!"
Kalyani put down the phone and saw her friends looking at her with Aww looks.
"Khush sab log…?"
"Yes…!!"
"Varun..!!", Kalyani started but before she could say anything more, he knelt down and held his ears. "Sorry…bas tumse phone karwane keliye aisa kiya maine…but I'm really sorry…please maaf kar do.."
"Iss baar maaf Kiya…par Varun kabhi bhi kisi ke saat aisa mazak mat karna…"
"Yes ma'am…"
Malhar came to their office at lunch time. He got introduced to everyone and made small talk while having the lunch.
Kalyani knew it was not easy on him but he had done it for her. She tried to guess what he must have been feeling but not once had he shown any awkwardness outwardly.
"Kalyani tumne aaj tak sindoor kyun nahi lagayi…? Kitni achi lagogi…!!", Nikita said loudly.
Kalyani was wondering what to say and just made an excuse, "Woh… pasine chutne ke wajah se…"
"Are..bas itni si baat..ek minute ruko.."
She went and got something from her bag and gave it to Kalyani.
"Ye lo…ye waterproof sindoor stick hai…Laga lo…aur ye tum rakh lo…"
Kalyani opened what looked like a lipstick but in the colour of deep maroon.
"Ek minute…!! ACP ji…!! Aap laga dijiye…", she called out.
Malhar was stunned. He tried very hard not to show any of the emotions that were surging inside him, "Uh…!! Mai..!!"
Kalyani noticed the shiver in his hands. She could understand his inner turmoil. She remembered herself vigorously rubbing it off from her parting. Why would he want to subject himself to that pain again? After all he was yet to know her heart.
She wanted to shake her friends, asking them to mind their business and their own lives. Sometimes friends also crossed their limits in the name of having fun.
"Nahi…!! Mai khud laga lungi…hum donon ko PDA pasand nahi hai..", Kalyani said and applied a streak with the stick.
She silently congratulated herself for wearing a high collared dress which did not show off her neck. Warna pata nahi ye log aur kya kya karwate..uff…
Finally the lunch was over and Malhar left for home.
Atul had been talking on the phone when Malhar came back home.
"Malhar… aa gaye Tum..acha hua…mere saat Chalo…"
"Kahan…? Abhi thodi der me aapko nikalna tha na ..?"
"Are Mai nahi jaa raha hun…!! Cancel kar do gaadi...!! Kuch aur din tum donon ke saat bita raha hun…"
"Yahi toh mai kal bol raha tha..!! Tab nahi maane aap…"
"Hmm…Mai toh jaane hi wala tha..lekin Atharv ka phone aaya …uski icha hai ki mai uske janamdin tak ruk jaun…Ab agar Sampada hoti toh Atharv bhi…toh…"
"Aap mujhe safai kyun de rahe hain Baba…ye aapka ghar hai…aap yahin reh jayenge toh mujhe aur bhi bohot khushi hogi…aur Kalyani ki tension bhi dur hogi..ki aap wahan akele hain…"
Atul touched his cheek, "Tum mere damaad nahi bete ho…"
"Aapne mujhe beta maana isse badi khushi kuch nahi hai mereliye…"
"Are rulaoge kya mujhe….? ab chalo mujhe market le chalo…"
Atul and Malhar were standing in front of the jewellery shop.
"Baba hum yahan kyun aaye hain..?"
"Tum Chalo andhar pehle…", Atul dragged him in.
The attendant came to them, "Namaste Sir…kahiye aapko kya dekhna hai…"
"Mangalsutra…!!" Atul said, still holding Malhar's hand.
"Ba..ba…!!" Malhar stuttered.
"Iss taraf aaiye Sir..sabse best aur naye designs hain hamare paas…do din pehle hi naya stock aaya tha…I hope aapko Pasand aayenge…baitiye Sir…"
The attendant called out to a counter salesperson to show them the latest designs.
Atul pulled Malhar down to the chair, "Tum pasand karo..apni baiko keliye…!!" He turned to the man, "Dikhaiye…"
Malhar was totally flabbergasted. Sab pata hone ke bawajood Baba ye kya kar rahe hain…Yahan in sab ke saamne kuch pucha toh unhe bura lagega…. Lekin…!!
Atul tapped him, "Sapne baadme dekho…pehle designs dekho aur pasand karo…uss wakt toh time nahi tha acha wala khareedne ka… lekin ab mai koi khasar nahi chodunga…"
"Lekin…"
"Sshh…!! Ye dekho…!! ye kaisa hai.. Kalyani par jajega na…?"
Finally Atul made Malhar select a beautiful chain.
When they came back home, Kalyani was already back. She got up from the sofa.
"Kya…? Kahan gayab ho gaye aap donon..? Papa aapne mujhe jaldi aane ko bola aur ab khud hi kahin ghoomne gaye…? Abhi aapko der nahi hui..?"
"Nahi hui...kyunki Mai nahi jaa raha hun.."
"Toh pehle kyun nahi bataya...mujhe office me aur bhi kaam tha...aur ab kahan se aa rahe hain...?"
"Ek bohot zaroori kaam karne gaye tha…"
"Aisa Kya zaroori tha…?"
Atul took out the small box from the pouch that he always carried. He opened the box and showed its content to his daughter.
"Papa…!!", Kalyani got shocked.
"Meri beti ka gala aise suna dekhkar acha nahi lagta mujhe…!! Isliye…!! Pehle wale ka kya hua yeh mujhe nahi jaanna hai…par ab…"
He turned, held the open box to Malhar, "Tum abhi mere aankhon ke saamne ise pehnao Kalyani ke gale me…"
Malhar felt feverish. It was all going over his head.
"Lo…pakdo ise…!!"
Malhar's hands shook slightly as he held the chain in his hand. Ye galat hai…nahi kar sakta mai aisa…
He stepped towards Kalyani.
Kalyani saw his blanched face, his eyes shimmering with unshed tears which he was holding back.
Papa ka dimaag kharab ho gaya hai…inhe itni jaldi kya thi..Kya karun mai inka..mujhe inhe pehle nahi batana chahiye tha kuch bhi…
Malhar was still standing immovable.
"Are khade kya ho…pehnao jaldi…"
Kalyani looked at him and he was swallowing hard.
Mujhe pata hai aap kya feel kar rahe hain…Aapke haaton se hi toh ise pehenna chahti hun…par aise nahi… sahi wakt par…
Malhar took her hand in his and placed the chain.
His voice was hoarse and choked, "Please mujhe galat mat samajhna…mai nahi jaanta tha ki…!! wahan dukan me sabke saamne… kuch bol nahi Saka…!! please Tum mujhe galat mat samajhna…."
His eye lashes were wet now, the little beads of tears visible.
"Baba please maaf kar dijiye mujhe…!! ye nahi kar sakta mai…!! nahi kar sakta…!! Mujhe ye hak nahi hai…!! Kalyani ko ye sirf usike haaton pehenna chahiye jise uska dil chahta hai…!! aur mujhe pata hai ki woh mai nahi hun…!!
He turned away and walked into his room, shutting it softly.
Kalyani's own heart was heavy seeing that pain in his eyes. She shook her head at her dad, "Kyun papa..? Kyun kiya aapne aisa… dekha kitna dard hua Malhar ko…"
Atul was also feeling very bad. His intentions had been right but the time had been wrong.
"I'm sorry Kalyani…!!"
"Please Papa…jab tak mai Malhar se baat na karun..tab tak aap apne ye atrangi ideas ko box me daalke bandh kijiye….!! pata nahi aapke rukne se khush rahun ya phir aapko abhi ke abhi pack up karwa dun…"
They heard a knock.
It was Sarthak.
"Kaka…aaiye na…!!"
"Maine kuch disturb toh nahi kar diya…?"
"Kaisi baatein kar rahe hain Kaka.. koi disturbance nahi hai…aapka ghar hai…aap baitiye…Mai chai banati hun sabkeliye…"
Sarthak sat down and asked, "Chai rehne do...!! Malhar dikhayi nahi de raha…!! Bahar gaya hai kya…?"
"Nahi apne kamre me hai… uske sar me thoda dard hai…", Atul said.
"Acha…!! Mujhe usse baat karni thi…"
"Koi zaroori baat hai Kya Kaka…Mai bula deti hun…"
"Zaroori toh hai beta, panditji ne kal thoda der se aane ko bola hai…bas wahi batane aaya tha…Tum bata dogi…?"
"Ji Kaka…Mai bata dungi…"
"Panditji…?", Atul looked questioningly.
"Haan kal Vahini….yani Malhar ke Aai ki barsi hai…!! Toh hum mandir me panditji se saare arrangements karwa lete hain…Mai aur Malhar jayenge…"
After Sarthak had left Atul had also retired to the room. Kalyani was standing in the kitchen when Malhar came in to fill his water bottle.
"Malhar…!!"
He looked at her. His eyes were calm and blank now. She knew he had silenced his emotions and it pricked her heart.
"Mujhe aapse baat karni hai…"
"Haan..!! bolo…"
She went a bit closer, taking the bottle out of his hand and took hold of both his hands in hers.
"I'm sorry…!!", She said.
"Sorry…!! Kyun..?", he asked softly.
"Pehle aaj subah Papa ne jo nadaani ki hai uskeliye…phir mere office walon ki overacting keliye…aur ab Jo papa ne Kiya..it was too much…."
"Nahi…it's ok…!! Jaane do…"
"It's not ok..!! Mujhe pata hai aapne kitna dard mehsus kiya hoga…and woh sab meri wajah se hua…"
"Tumhare wajah se kuch nahi…Tum…"
She silenced him with her finger.
"Sabse jyada dard toh maine di hai aapko…itne mahine maine aapke saat jaisa bartaav kiya hai woh sochkar apne aap par gussa aa raha hai…Maine apna saara frustration aap pe nikal diya…aapko doshi maanna aasan tareeka tha…jabki iss pure maamle me aapki toh koi bhi galti nahi thi….kitni stupid thi mai.."
"Kk..alyani…!!", His voice was thick with emotions and he leaned back on the kitchen counter. "Tum…!! Mai…!!"
"Jab aap yahan nahi the ek mahine keliye…tab ghar me…mere man me ek khalipan chaa gaya….bohot sochne lagi….aur mujhe meri galti saaf nazar aa gayi…koi haq nahi tha mujhe aapko aise treat karne ka… jabse maine realize kiya hai..tabse intezaar kar rahi thi aapse maafi maangne….I'm sorry Malhar…!! Dil se maafi maang rahi hun…!! mujhe pata hai maaf karna itna aasaan nahi hoga..!! par please agar ho sake toh maaf kar dijiye…", she squeezed his hands gently.
Tears rolled out of Malhar's eyes. Was this conversation happening in real..!!
Her soft fingertips wiping his cheek told him Yes…it's not a dream.
"Mai tumse naraaz nahi hun..!! Mai jaanta tha tum kis mushkil se guzar rahi thi…!! Tum bhi bhul jao…"
"Ye aapka badappan hai Malhar… warna mai jaanti hun ki maine jo kiya us wajah se aapke dil ko kitni tes pohonchi hai…"
"Mai Khush hun ki mai tumhare Kisi kaam toh aa saka…Apne andhar ki saari naaraazgi aur kadwahat nikalne…"
"Gussa dikhane keliye koi apna hona chahiye…aur aapne mujhe wahi apnapan diya hai…", she hugged his waist and rested her head on his chest. "Thank you…!! aap nahi hote toh pata nahi mai…"
"Nahi…. Kuch nahi hota tumhe… Tum fighter ho…sabse strong….Mai na hota toh bhi tum sab sambhal leti…"
"I'm sorry…!!" She said and parted.
"Bas Kalyani…Bhool jao beeti baton ko…"
"Itna aasan nahi hai…bohot guilty feel kar rahi hun…aapko jitna bhi time lagega mujhe maaf Karne..Mai intezaar karungi…"
Malhar was inturn reassuring her, "Mai sach me tumse naraaz nahi tha Kalyani…!! jhoot nahi bolunga ki tumhari baaton se dard nahi hua…bohot hua…lekin…mujhe aadat hai…!! Aur mai yeh bhi jaanta hun ki tumne jaan bujhke nahi kiya…Tumhe khud ko maaf karna hai Kalyani…!!"
She nodded her head, "Koshish karungi khud ko maaf karne ki…Kya hum ab se hum ek friendly zone me enter kar sakte hain….?"
He smiled and nodded his head.
She then frowned, "Ek minute...!! Aadat hai ka kya matlab…?"
"Kuch nahi…!!"
"Dard sehne ki aadat kisko hoti hai…?"
"Tum jaake aaram karo…"
"Topic change kar rahe hain..? Teekh hai...!! Abhi keliye nahi puch rahi hun...!! Aur haan..!! Uss sofe pe aaram ki neend naseeb nahi hoti…", she pouted making him smile.
"Toh andhar bistar pe so jao…Mai Yahan…"
"Acha…aap soyenge sofe par…? Jab mujhe itni takleef hoti hai aapko kaise comfortable hoga…"
"Toh teekh hai mai neeche bistar laga leta hun…"
"Nahi…nahi…Aapke kandhe ka dard ab teekh nahi hua hai…"
"Toh tum hi bata do kya karna hai…"
"Hum mature adults ke tarah bed ko share kar sakte hain…"
"Kya…?"
"Teekh hi suna aapne…chaliye ab…mujhe toh neend aa rahi hai…"
On the bed, Malhar kept himself to the edge.
"Aur thoda…"
He moved little more.
"Aur…aur… "
"Kalyani…lekin..!!"
"Kya Kalyani….? Mujhe pata hai kitni jagah hai…aur thoda move karenge toh neeche gir jayenge aap…"
"Tum aaram se so jao…Mai adjust kar lunga…"
"Nahi karenge aap koi adjust…!! Bohot kar li..Ab aur nahi…!! Teekh se letiye bistar pe…warna mai hi chali jaati hun sofe pe…"
Malhar corrected his sleeping posture, "Goodnight…"
"Goodnight…"
"Ek minute…!!!"
"Ab Kya..?"
"Are mai bhul gayi batane ki Kaka aaye the…!!" and she told him what Sarthak had conveyed.
"Teekh hai…thank you…!!"
She felt him withdraw into himself again.
"Agar aapko etraaz na ho toh..Mai bhi aapke saat shrardh keliye aana chahti hun…"
"Tum..?"
"Hmm…!! aapki Aai meri bhi Aai hai…"
His eyes had filled with sadness but he nodded his head and turned to the other side.

The office scene is so good. Loved it how Malhar reacted(so cute!) how he was with everyone and how everyone teased them. Bohot pyaara sequence.
Bechara atul pyaar se sula karwana chahta tha but he couldn’t guess how deeply rooted the scares are, bechara ended up hurting mj. I can totally feel mj’s dilemma.
The apology scene was honest, realistic and much needed. Just accurate di. Kalyani ne bas apne dil ki baat saamne rakhdi. Sooo beautiful.
It must be too much for Malhar to sink in, as I said uski Zindagi hi badal gayi. Can’t wait for them to share more of their everything to each other🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
