Dance is the hidden language of the soul
~ Martha Graham ~

Allow me to take you back in time. A time in which the ending of the show would not even be a thought.
In fact, our journey in getting to know all about Raghav Rao had just started.

Our setting will be the place most of us have imagined about several times a day, I am sure:
The Raghav Rao bedroom, in the amazingly beautiful Raghav Rao Mansion. When we speak of aesthetics, we cannot leave out a mention of the mesmerizing scenery of this house. The blueish colors in the bedroom, which are linked to spirituality, have truly given us the feelings of a safe haven.

I must admit, my heart skips a beat or two when we are treated to scenes with Raghav Rao in the Mansion, albeit in his bedroom, the hall and on top of the stairways. What about yours? Come on.. It is safe to admit it. I swear, I won’t tell a soul!

In the initial days, we have had the pleasure to see Raghav Rao dance a couple of times:

- In the nightclub with the ladies (Anjali)
Clearly, he has no interest or passion to dance. Raghav is troubled and wants to forget about his sorrows, at least for the night. For the lost, lonely and troubled souls, the nights are always the longest.

- At the Deshmukh’s, with Pallavi at Manasi’s engagement function
Raghav sticks around when he notices his sister Keerthi. Good for us that he did. We got to see one of the first and infamous “hair smelling” scenes and the fire and passion Raghav danced with, only to impress Pallavi.

- Bharatnathyam, in the privacy of his room, sneak peeked by Pallavi
This is the scene I want to relive with you once again and break down the beauty of the vulnerable side of Raghav Rao. The setting is extremely intimate. I would like to describe his emotions seen through the eyes of us spectators, personified in Pallavi.

One of the most surprising shades of Raghav Rao was visible during his Shiva Tandava dance. Although, it was extremely brief, it did make an impact. Especially on the curious person peeping in. Watching and admiring him. Dare I say, it was in this moment that Pallavi Deshmukh actually saw him for the very first time. Not just the handsome, shrewd business savvy, rough and tough exterior of the Don of Hyderabad, to which she was unconsciously attracted too. No, no… Of course not. That would be pointing out the obvious.

Alongside with us secret spectators, Pallavi follows the drumbeats and was intrigued by this fine being dancing on the magical and spiritual rhythm of the music. What a pleasant and breathtaking sight.

Image

It did not only look beautiful but I went to check and compare the dance movements, as I have very less knowledge about it, and these were actually on point. So.. kudos for actor Sai Ketan Rao! Back to Raghav Rao again..!

Raghav danced in honor of Lord Shiva but more so out of devotion to his mother, also his dance teacher. Generally, Lord Shiva's tandava is associated with anger. When Raghav performs the dance, it gives him a chance to somewhat go through and settle his emotions of anger, sadness and loneliness. It is therapeutic. He yearns for his mother’s acceptance and realizes he will never receive it. Still, he keeps on hoping and trying with all the fire and passion he has inside. Whatever Raghav does in life, it will always be with passion.

Image

Yes, I dare say, it was in this moment Pallavi saw him for the very first time. She registered:
Raghav Rao: vulnerable, delicate, broken, dedicated and devoted, lonely, angry and passionate.
Shades, she never ever would have guessed existed in him. A mixture of colors she was drawn to as she could recognize it to be a part of hers too.

As the wise men say:
“To watch us dance, is to hear our hearts speak.”
“Dance is the hidden language of the soul.”

And just like that, unknowingly, in just a few minutes of dance, Raghav Rao let us in and showed us a glimpse of his soul and made us love him, fall in love with him even more and recognize parts of ourselves. Perhaps this made it even easier for us to connect to him and embrace all of him in our hearts. The good, the bad, the beautiful and not so pretty.. We have accepted him fully. He is ours and we are his. It would take Pallavi a bit more time to accept this truth, but we were all set for this journey with our popcorn and cokes.

Raghav Rao is a cocktail of emotions felt and absorbed by us all. Not just a character from some daily tv-show but (one part of) the heartbeat of MHRW. RAGHAV RAO is and will forever remain an ICON!

Singing

'Tum aa gaye ho noor aa gaya hai
Nahi to charaago se lau jaa rahi thi
Jeene ki tumse wajah mil gayi hai
Badi bewajah zindagi jaa rahi thi'

How nice it is when someone sings a song for you, especially when the song conveys that you are the reason for living life. It feels good, right?

And now imagine, that person who doesn't even know how to sing, sings for you, then?

Raghav Rao, whom Pallavi once called 'besura bhonpu', sang for her, can you imagine it? Well, you have to! Lol.

Actually it was because he wanted to pacify his wife, Pallavi, as she was super angry and hurt by his actions. Because he wanted her to go to Kolhapur to her brother. He thought that she was not happy with him and living with him against her wish. But the thing he didn't know was, she didn't wanted to leave, but he made decision without her consent, which hurt her.

He tried many ways to pacify her but nothing worked. Even Farhad's bhool bhool shayri didn't work in his favour.

And then finally Milind Kaka and Krishna gave the idea that Pallavi likes old hindi songs. But here the problem was, he didn't know how to sing and top of that he didn't even know about hindi songs as he only knows about Telugu songs.

Although it was really difficult task for him but still, he managed to manayofy her.

I must say he sang really well and what he wanted to convey through the song, he was successful in that. Finally he managed to calm Pallavi down and indirectly conveyed that she is important part of his life.

This was the first time he sang for Pallavi.

Hasya (Laughter)

Chuckles and Giggles

Image

Gif Credit:

Ashi (@aye-masakalii)

From Devilish Smirks to Innocent Chortles.

Raghav, whose lips always curved upwards in mocking laughter when he won over his enemy, in sinister smile when he planned dark moves, in smug grin when he flirted around with girls. But one thing that he forgot was innocent, child-like giggles. It had been long since Raghav had laughed till his stomach hurt. Life was hard on him yet there entered an Angel in his life. Pallavi. The woman who could shake his six-foot frame with mirth. As she accidently discovered his tickle spot, she knew she had to take advantage of it. Seeing his wife’s predatory steps, Raghav stepped back, only to be attacked with TICKLES. The Don of Hyderabad turned into a kid, running away from gud-gudee but wanting to laugh more. He ran around the room to save himself, knowing very well that his wife would chase him. Raghav laughed some more every time she caught him. As Pallavi stopped her attacks, allowing him to catch a breath, she assured him that she wouldn't do anything. Eying her with suspicion, he slowly got up from the chair that he had fallen in, only to (you guessed it right) be tickled again. The tickle finally ended when he fell on the bed with Pallavi on top of him, as they got lost in each other’s eyes.

If a person could be innocent as a little baby and be fierce the very next minute, it would be Raghav Rao. We have already been privy to Raghav’s fierceness but in this sequence, we get to witness his innocent side too. Beginning from the moment his beloved Amma asks him to buy Pallavi a gift for Vat Savitri, to the moment he left the two ladies to explore the gifts he bought, it was nothing but hilarious to see Raghav’s innocent side.

Imagine self-proclaiming to be “born smart” and then be called “Ghochu” by your mother! But we’ll always remain a little baby in the eyes of our mothers, so I guess he can still maintain his title. Like a little baby, our dearest Ghochu Baby Rao was rendered helpless, unable to defy Amma’s orders. His expressions were on point (when are they not, right?), emoting his helplessness and a little bit of annoyance at having to go and select a few gifts. His expressions were no different than that of a teenage boy who is asked by his mother to buy some groceries, making excuses to not go. But he forgets, he is talking to his mother, hence his silly excuses were bound to be useless. Who knew Raghav Rao could be helpless like this right? Or rather, who could’ve thought someone could reprimand The Don of Hyderabad for being this innocent. The look on his face here was priceless! An expected reaction when you call yourself "born smart" but still, cute. It was an absolute treat to watch him like this, a little baby, tired of the world telling him around. But boy, were we not ready for what would happen next!

Image

He walked into the room, glinting with confidence, for he was so sure his selection was impeccable. Well, let’s say the biggest jewellery designer’s first adventure in saree shopping wasn’t that much of a success. For someone who calls others “Paltu”, he isn’t that different from others, here’s how: One of his excuses to Amma for not going shopping was that he didn’t know Pallavi’s choice. Well, Mr Rao was a little quick to announce he knew her choice very well while Pallavi and Amma were trying their best to not let his little bubble burst so soon. Who’s the Paltu now Mr Rao? Anyways, if he is so cute now, imagine how much cuter he would’ve been as a kid! The second gif depicts how, like a baby, he got so pleased with himself and his choice. The way he proudly presented the bangles he got for her was extremely endearing but my my, never thought he would make the mistake of getting green, red and yellow bangles to be paired with a purple saree. Perhaps, this innocence and lack of colour coordination is what made this scene all the more hilarious. But the cherry on the cake was him declaring his choice was the best and Amma validating it. “Haina Amma?” This reply and the gentle smile had me rolling! Seriously, can he be any cuter?

Raudra (Anger)

Raghav Rao's Entry Scene

This is the scene which got 99% of the audience hooked to the show. The surge of anger and fire in Raghav eyes when his sister became a victim of eve teasing sent shivers down the spine. He fought and took all the strikes for his beloved sister just to keep her protected from all the evil eyes. He bled but kept on fighting until the goons gave up yet he was left all alone by the same sister for whom he was beaten and injured. He was not only angry for her sister being eve teased but he was also feeling estranged and alone in this big world with no happiness. One could clearly see how worried he was as soon as he saw his sister walking on a deserted road with a few good for nothing street loafers chasing her down. One could feel the amount of protection he held for her. At one look it would look as if he forced some random girl to sit in car given his womanizing attitude but no, he was actually concerned for his baby sister. This one scene marks how valuable and dear his own people are to him.

Bhayanaka (Terror/Fear)

Nightmare

'Nightmare are the worst of all fear.
Not because they are scary,
But because we are scared of them becoming out reality.'
__Arunima

Totally agree with this quote. We always have this fear that our nightmares may not come true. This is the worst thing one can imagine.

The same thing happened with Raghav too. He was scared, scared to the extent. Because he didn't want to lose the love of his life, his wife, his Pallavi.

Actually it was about the day when Mandar took Pallavi with him for the whole day. And Raghav was looking for her all day, but could not find or reach her because that evil Mandar had switched off Pallavi's phone without her knowledge.

Raghav was worried, scared, restless and angry because he didn't trust Mandar at all, especially after when he challenged Raghav that within 7 days Pallavi would be with him. That's why he was so restless to reach her.

-

At night, when Raghav entered their bedroom after changing into nightwear, he saw someone approaching Pallavi with Mangal-sutra in hands, while Pallavi was sleeping.

He was so shocked to see the sight before his eyes. And before those hands could tie the Mangal-sutra around her neck, Raghav ran towards the person and pulled the person towards him. It would be wrong to say that he was not shocked/scared to see the person, because the person was none other than Mandar.

Panicked and breathless, he got up. Fear was clearly evident on his face. Terrified he looked at Pallavi who was unaware of all this and was sleeping peacefully. He heaved a huge sigh of relief, knowing it was nothing but a nightmare. But he was still scared.

The moment Pallavi turned towards him while still sleeping and the moment her hand touched his, his gaze went on the bangles in her hands. The same bangles, which Mandar made her wear.

"Aaj sirf choodiyan pehnayi hai, kal Mangal-sutra pehnayunga. Naa aaj tu rok paya na kal rok payega"

These words started ringing in his head automatically, the moment he saw those bangles. These words were spoken by Mandar to Raghav when he came to drop Pallavi after spending the whole day with her. These words were not just words. This was the challenge, he gave to Raghav like he did the other day.

Yup he got scared and restless because it was about his Pallavi and couldn't trust Mandar for this, and most importantly, he couldn't afford to lose Pallavi. But at the same time he was the Raghav Rao, who never afraid of any challenge. And with that, he promised himself that he will not let that Mandar win.

"Main uss bina address wale envelope ko jeetne nahi dega. Uska baat ko main, sach nahi hone dega. And this is Ragahv Rao's promise"

Again his gaze fell on the bangles and this time he was about to remove from her hands but dropped the idea maybe he remembered the promise he had made to himself a few moments earlier.

-

I must say Sai Ketan Rao is a brilliant performer. The way he portrayed different emotions like, fear, restlessness, panic, strong yet calm at the same time, was totally upto mark.

Jaya Forgiving Raghav (Episode 106):-

Raghav has been burning in guilt for the past 10 years that he was responsible for the deaths of his father and his brother as the mob which came to get money from Raghav took out their anger on his family members instead. Not only did Raghav lose his father and his brother at that moment, but he also lost his mother and his sister who broke all their ties with him practically abandoning him to his grief. His mother Jaya couldn’t get over the death of his husband and younger son. No mother and wife can come over a trauma like that.

Due to a small bet from Pallavi, Raghav is finally able to visit the tragedy of the past and tells Pallavi the whole story. Pallavi the person she is doesn’t waste time and discusses her perspective with Jaya. Jaya just like Raghav doesn’t waste time correcting her mistake once she realizes that she has wronged her son.

The episode totally is a conversation between the mother and son - The mother finally acknowledging that she has wronged Raghav by not understanding his stance and not seeing his intent and rather holding him responsible for the unfortunate tragedy. Raghav who gave up the hope of ever getting forgiveness from his mother is surprised that his mother is talking to him about the tragedy. He just can’t believe the words that come from his mother - that his mother is not only asking him forgiveness but also absolving him of all the guilt. The relief on Raghav’s face is so palpable. He suddenly feels as if someone has lifted a huge weight from his shoulders and that causes him to stumble back. You feel for Raghav when you see how he was always aching for forgiveness for his mistake and finally, he does get it - His surprise and amazement have been portrayed perfectly by Sai. This happens to be one of my favorite Raghav moments and hope you all enjoyed reading my take on this beautiful heart-wrenching scene.

Shantha (Peace or Tranquility)

When Pallavi promised she is only Raghav's:

He was scared. For the very first time in his life, Raghav Rao was scared to death ; hefeared of loosing HER. The love of his life ; the reason for his very own existance. The moment he heard that her ex husband aka Bina Address Ka Envelope aka Mandaar Deshmukh had taken his wife out to some distant place, he panicked, running around like a wounded lion with his heart on his palm. She was nowhere, not even at the Deshmukh House where that Bindi Wala Aunty spoke shit about her having fun with that creep. No he wasn't angry at her or scared that she might leave him ; hell no, he feared for her life because he knew how much of a creep and dangeroud human Mandaar Deshmukh was.

When he answered her phone, Raghav felt the floor beneath him be taken off in a pull and hence he ran, every mile, every place just to search for her; get her in his arms, safe and sound to never ever leave her again. Maybe his Venkateshwara was with him that he finally found her after the entire day marathon right where she belonged; his house. His anger knew no bounds when he saw her standing outside with that ex of hers smiling and to top it off with some chilli effect, she was wearing the bangles that Mandaar gifted her.

But as we say that every storm ends one day and a rainbow takes over the sky. Similarly all his anger vanished and peace took over when she took him to the kitchen after apologizing for her carelessness, only if she knew that it wasn't her fault and he was not angry on her but nonethless, one look from her with those puppy eyes as she held her ears drained all his hurt down the drain but what left was the uncertainity of what if ' She leaves him again'. He's never feared loneliness until she walked into his life and claimed it. It wasn't like Raghav Rao hadn't been a loner before but when he met her , his life got a soul and a reason to live. As he sat on the kitchen counter worried of their future, she walked to him with a glass of lemonade. She saw him in thoughts and hence woke him up in her way; lightly banging their foreheads together and handling him a glass of the said drink that she made.

Raghav couldn't help but smile, it was all these simple things which she does made him fall in love with her. If it had been any other girl, it would have been an emotionless physical intimacy to grab his attention but she, well she was different, proud with her glass of leamonade with a load of love in it for him.

"Kya hua?" she asked him. Only if she could see the pain inside his heart, he thought. But they had promised to always openly talk about his feelings, hence , he voiced out his insecurities.

"Pallavi tum kya chahta hai?" was the first question he asked her. It had always been about her and what she wants for him. He would go to any length to give her what he wants. She was his wife and he loves her.

"Matlab?" she asked and he knew she was confused by his behaviour too so he made her understand, taking the upper hand in this conversation.

"Matlab Mandaar ko leke tum kya soch raha hai?" . There it was the real question. Whatever her answer would be he would take it no matter how much it hurts him because Raghav Rao had always been a guy with clarity.

"Ab isme sochna kya? Ab tum jaisa soch rahe ho waise hi hone wala hai na" she replied making his heart skip a beat in fear. Was she gonna leave him? But before a new storm is created, she voices out like the calmness of his life.

"Shh shant. Sach bataun toh main chahti hoon ki Mandaar ki yaddasht jald se jald wapas aa jaye" she replies all his unspoken question by a single sentence. The most honest reply/ Honesty , the only thing Raghav wanted now but there is still so much more that he fears. As she walks away from him, he misses her warmth in seconds and hence he too glides down walking to her pulling her back in his arms as he asks her the final doubt that had been creating nightmares in his mind.

"Tumko kuch puchun?" the respect that they have of each others opinions has always been special to him as she softly replies with a "Han pucho". Even though scared of her answer but tired of his fear, he asks her.

"Mandaar tumko bahut pyaar karta tha na. Agar usko uska pyaar wapas yaad aa gaya toh?" he hated the slight quiver in his voice but the fear of loosing her was too big to let go off. Recently she had always given into the demands of Mandaar and his family so what if he remebers the love he has for her and asks her to come back. Will she go?

"Toh main tumhe tumahar pyaar yaad dila dungi" there she was his Saree Ka Dukaan with the most calming answer, like a rainbow after his storm. Always with the perfect words.

"Jisne mujhe iss tarah badal diya hai ki main khudko bhi nahin pehchaan paa rahi hoon." The honesty and serenity in her voice is the peace he was looking for. Slowly she glides her finger near her lip indicating their code of love and as the fear leaves his heart and soul, he couldn't help but smile at the peace that takes its place and he too reciprocate the code; shouting in his heart a thousand I Love You's but for now this would work too.

As she slides her hands through his chest behind his back; the hug voicing down the rythm of heart he never knew had upped down due to his fears but as her heart connects with his, they start beating in syn and all worries wash away bringing only love and peace to their little world. A world he never wants to come out of. A world where she is the centre of his entire universe.
