Do you consider Jackie Shroff a popular actor?

His career was average.  He wasn’t popular like the Khans or even Akshay.  What do you think? 😲

Jackie Shroff in the 80s was very popular. Especially the films he did with Dimple and Anil Kapoor. Hero, Raam Lakhan, Tridev made him popular. But he did some exceptional acting in Mahesh Bhatt's Kaash and Gardish. He acted in some pretty crap roles and takes whatever comes his way. But he's still working when many of his contemporaries aren't working any more.There were financial troubles when his wife decided to take up production with the disastrous Boom(more remembered for Katrina's debut). They almost lost their house because of the debt before Jackie bailed them out by acting in some terrible films.

He does look hot ( with clothes and shoes  on) .  Not as popular as The Khans but he was popular enough. 

Jackie Shroff was one of the biggest stars of 80s and early 90s. And top male model before he entered films.

Tridev, Ram Lakhan, Khalnayak, Parinda, Kaash, Gardish, Karma, Hero, Rangeela etc he gave good performances and hit films. He surpassed all his contemporaries with powerhouse performance in Parinda and Kaash.

He could have been a bigger star had he taken his career, looks more seriously and not done crap films for sake of friends or wasted himself in multi starrers. He was never into marketing, PR either nor media savvy which is why he never got his due despite hits and good performances.

  

He has of course ruined his legacy now doing faltu films and ads in recent years. But he was definitely popular and bankable star and good actor in 80s and 90s. 

Subhash Ghai took him in almost every film even if he kept changing other male actors who'd be cast opposite him. He even had a brief appearance in Saudagar. His pairing with Madhuri and Dimple was successful onscreen.
