The festival has various celebrations in various parts of India.
The celebrations start on the third day of the Bhadrapada. It is called as Hartalika Teej to mark Shri Shiv-Parvati or SwarnaGauri Pooja in the Southern Indian states as a celebration of AdiShakti annual visit of the women at their maternal house.
