Glad majority of people in this thread's comments & even on social media echoed my thoughts. It wasn't racist at all.

Not even remotely. Pratik's clothing was very outlandish.

This is Lee Dong Wook and Goong Yoo from Goblin (excellent k-drama, highly recommend).

This is Pratik.

While I don't think most k-dramas have Pratik's style of clothing, what Shamita is basically saying is that his appearance reminded her of K-Pop and K-dramas. She's not being racist towards him and saying he's Korean. If Pratik was into K-dramas, would this question even exist? Nope. It's only an issue because Pratik made it one. She also didn't make an attempt to save herself from making a racist statement, even though she was stumbling for the proper words.

Coming to Shamita saying "I won't choose you." Yaar, badak gaye Pratik immediately off the bat insinuating that Shamita implied something else. If you're forming a connection with someone, you shouldn't do it with someone who you got off on the wrong foot from the start. It's another matter that I don't think she should have said that to begin with, but that also doesn't mean anything. It's not hypocrisy as Pratik thinks it is - it was just a statement.

EDIT: I don't recall anything about facial features being described.

I did not find it racist. It is like telling someone you look like a Punjabi.
i am from NewYork. It is like saying to someone Irish accent, you seem to be from Ireland or German accent you seem to be German.

In india also people say you looked like Bengali or Gujarati or Maharashtrian. It is not racism. You are reading too much in one statement.

She did not meant it in racist way and it did not sound racist.

it is definitely racist when you use word chinki for everyone same facial features. But Shamita did not meant that.

When Akshara was referring to UP/Bihar and Nachinaya, it was a racist statement that she brought up self targeting playing victim card. No one called her Nachaniya.

Yea. It was racist. It's harder to discern because we come from a culture where is normal calling folks from different regions with different facial features and "othering them" and they do experience a lot of discrimination. So Shamita's comment, "Korean vibes" which I think she meant in "exotic" ways, came across as Indian culture's reality, which is to "other" those who do not have the dominant culture facial features. I don't know if he necessarily felt this way since I think he just wanted to pop off on everyone that night lol. My opinion.

She said - you're giving me a Korean vibe. Then she said K-pop and K-drama etc. But she didn't specify that it was his jacket or his clothes that she was talking about, as some comments here have pointed out. She didn't say that. So, the natural assumption is that she was talking about his facial features because he has those north eastern features. And it is common for most people in India to comment about NE people and it is hurtful for them because they are also Indians and they don't like it when they get called by other nationality names.

I suppose a lot of people are not aware of this so they didn't take offence. But if she had specified that it's his clothes or she just said K-pop vibes, then it wouldn't come across like this. But just because you don't know about this issue, doesn't mean that somebody cannot take offence at this. It's like saying so what if a black person gets called 'African' even if he is French or American! If you're a citizen of a country, you don't want to be judged on the basis of your facial features. Especially as a community. Won't it be offensive if somebody said - You don't look like a Madrasi at all, you're so fair! You look like a pahadi. !!??
