Regardless of how we might think of ourselves individually, it’s a proven fact that people, as a whole, are drawn to dramatic events!! There are entire genres of literature based on dramatic stories. We create movies about them. Heck, as terrible as Soap Operas are, they still draw loyal fans who can’t wait for the next series of twists and turns.😊

It shouldn’t come as a surprise, then, that the world of sports encompasses its own drama. After all, the players and the people involved are humans just the same. And when it comes to sports, many of the dramas involve what happened during the sporting events themselves, but even more often what happens in between the events!!

Slapgate (2008)

Slide 1 of 20: Slapgate

Controversies began right from the first season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) when Mumbai Indians’ stand-in skipper Harbhajan Singh reportedly slapped Kings XI Punjab paceman S. Sreesanth after Punjab had won the match. Although the exact reason for the incident remains a mystery, Sreesanth is believed to have said something that Singh found offensive.

Pakistan bans cricketers from IPL (2009)

In the backdrop of terror attacks in Mumbai in November 2008, the Pakistan government deemed it was unsafe for its players to travel to India for the following year's IPL. Top players like Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Akhtar, Younis Khan, Shoaib Malik, Sohail Tanvir and Umar Gul, who were playing for various franchises, were declined permission, along with others New Delhi on March 31, 2008.

Lalit Modi sacked (2010)

The IPL founder and chairman was suspended from his post by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after charges of financial wrongdoing against him emerged in 2010. After finding him guilty of indiscipline and misconduct, the BCCI in 2013 banned him for life from holding any cricket post.

Ravindra Jadeja banned for a year (2010)

Jadeja did not renew his contract with the Rajasthan Royals and tried to negotiate a more profitable deal with other franchises. It was a serious breach of players' guidelines, and the IPL Governing Council slapped a one-year ban on him.

Sensational revelations by cheerleader (2011)

South African cheerleader Gabriella Pasqualotto created quite a stir in the fourth edition of the IPL after she blogged about the deplorable conduct of cricketers at post-match parties. She was sacked from her role as cheerleader by the IPL, but that did little to scuttle the controversy.

Sourav Ganguly dumped (2011)

The fourth season of the IPL saw the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) dumping Ganguly after his base price reportedly increased from $200,000 to $400,000. The southpaw was later bought by the Pune Warriors as a late replacement for injured Ashish Nehra, but the KKR snub effectively ended Ganguly's IPL career.

We will share a few more tomorrow. 😊
