Yes many places in India in pre partion were really progressive but still it was not considered by many people ..infact jab dusre khete the ki apni bacchibko padao toh ulta log unpe sawaal karte the aur kai baar toh unko woh jagah chodke jaana padta tha yeh kehke inki soch ki wajah se dusri ladkiya bigadti hai..
Yes, girl education was limited, but it was a norm for those who had economic prosperity. Majority of the common lot had the same feelings as you stated. What I like is that they are going to the same school, otherwise I have read a lot of parents used to send their children to the specific religious schools, so they are not 'polluted', it is nice to see the harmony. Post-independance, we were trying to build our nation and pick it out of the shackles of the British Raj. Women lost out the most in the bargain.
