With the COVID-19 induced lockdown, we have all been pushed indoors and made to work from home. Sitting in front of our laptop screens from morning to midnight has not only given us annoying dark circles but has also disrupted our sleep pattern and has further sucked out all the glow from our skin. With tired eyes, glow-less face, and exhausted mind, we are all heading out to run our daily errands or even to meet some friends outside. But trust us, this needs to stop right away! We cannot let this year take away our radiance from us and drive away from our Instagrammble glow.

Now, you must have scrolled through your social media feeds while looking like you are sleepwalking, there are some who are glowing brighter than stars. Well, these are people who are addressing their skincare needs as their priority and not something that is optional. It is important to realise that skincare is no about looking good, it's rather about feeling good from within.

When your skin glows naturally, you feel more confident. Your beauty routine should not be focused only on tackling common skincare issues like acne and blemishes from the outside, instead, it should give your epidermis the required nourishment and moisturise. Wondering how you can do that? If so, then you will be glad to know that you just need to make some kitchen-based products a part of your skincare routine.

It's not just us but also actresses like Surbhi Jyoti who swear by kitchen-based products as a part of their beauty and skincare routine. If you have ever scrolled through her Instagram profile, you must have observed that the actress has flawless and radiant skin. The secret behind her healthy-looking skin is nothing a face mask that will cost you less than Rs 50.

So cheap you ask? That's the benefit of natural and DIY skincare products; they are not chemically produced and also pocket friendly. Surbhi shared the recipe for this mask on her Instagram account during the lockdown months.

  5. Benefits of using DIY or homemade mask

Things you need for Surbhi Jyoti's face mask

  1. One and a half spoon tablespoon turmeric powder
  2.
  3. One tablespoon gram flour
  4.
  5. One tablespoon wheat bran
  6.
  7. One tablespoon yogurt (milk can be used if you will)
  8.
  9. 3-4 drops of rose water

How to make

The process of making this face mask is not rocket science. All you need to do is add all the ingredients till point 5 in a bowl and mix them well. Keep churning the batter for creamy consistency and once done, add few drops of rose water for good fragrance.

The whole point of adding rose water is to give your make a good smell and also prevent any kind of redness or rash. Once you have the cream or paste-like material, apply the same to your face and wait till it dries out.

Surbhi suggested that you keep this mask on for about 20 minutes and not more. This is true because you have added turmeric to your batter, you don't want it to leave a stain on your face. Thus once you have figured that your mask is dry, exfoliate your face and rinse with lukewarm water.

Benefits of using DIY or homemade mask

  1. Instead of buying a face mask from the store, you should just create one at home like the Naagin 3 actress Surbhi. These work just like the store-bought product and sometimes even better.
  2.
  3. Plus, with DIY or homemade products, you have the liberty to control the ingredients you are adding. When purchasing skin care products from the market, you have less control over the ingredients being used.
  4.
  5. Not all ingredients suit all skin types and some of them can even worsen common skincare issues like dryness or pimples. When at home, you can conduct a patch test and add items that sit well with your skin.
