The show begins with Maharaj Bharat of Chandra Vansh returning from war and is being welcomed with pomp n ceremony into the palace by His mother Shakuntala ...wife of Chandra Vanshi Maharaj Dushyant .k

his kingdom stretched from Himalayas to the Indian Ocean ....and the kingdom was named after him .

He ruled in democratic manner and he considered a person’s profession n capabilities /merits more important that his birth/ cast .... he nominates Bharadwaj Putra Abhimanyu as his successor instead of his own sons ....sending shock waves in his cabinet , his family n the kingdom... for denying rights to his own sons . Bharat explains his duties as a King. Abhimanyu’s  successors/ generations  later things changes as Birth n caste became more important than occupation/ merits/ talents ..... by the time Shaantanu came to rules Bharatvarsh .

One day Shantanu was hunting besides Ganges ...he saw a Beautiful young maiden Ganga and fell in love its her at first sight .

He proposed to her n she agreed to marry him on the condition she would be allowed to do what ever she wished .. he would never question her . If he did she would reply but desert him for ever .
Shantanu agrees .

Shantanu Ganga get married with full rites n ceremony .

Months later There is rejoicing in the palace as Queen Ganga is about to give birth to the first child . Shantanu too is very excited . But soon all excitement dies down as Ganga drowns the neonate into Ganges .

Shantanu is shocked n is about to confront her but he remembers his promise . 

Ganga drowns  7 sons of Shantanu one after the other,  moments after  they are born .. Shantanu is heart broken and so are the ministers of state and the entire kingdom.

Ganga walks to the banks of river Ganga with her 8th new born son .

Finally Shantanu can hold his patience no longer ....He breaks his promises n confronts her for drowning his seven sons, forbids her from harming his 8th one .

Ganga then says she was living the curse by her father Brahma . That she had incurred when she had broken the discipline n decorum of heavens by flirting ..... he had cursed Ganga to be born on this earth .

Vashisht Rishi  had cursed 7 Vasus to be born on earth ....out of kindness she offered to give birth to them release their souls soon after birth . Shantanu n Ganga would have loved happily with their 8th son but alas king had broke his promise .....Ganga  leaves with her son n assures he will be returned when the right time comes .

Shantanu lives a life of loneliness ...waiting for his son’s return .

One fine day he rescues  two newborn abandoned children n names them Kripa n Kripi ..he hands them  to his Raj Rishi for upbringing 

After 16 yrs Ganga returns n hands Shantanu his son Dev vrata 

The palace n kingdom rejoices the arrival of their  prince.

Dev vrat’s talents, capabilities and knowledge impressed Shantanu .Dev vrata repels an attack on the territories of Bharat varsh by his excellent rann Vidya . It was his first  victory.
