an extract from an old post, a letter to Barun
Hi Barun,
You may wonder why letter? Well! Because you are not active on SNS and you like to read...so!😉

I was so ecstatic when TGIDF got released... couldn't wait and got registered on ALTbalaji to watch the series... I am generally not so impulsive...even for movies and all, I wait for 2nd or 3rd week to watch it... but when you came on youtube inviting us with that sexy droll of yours... "sirf ek din mein"... I simply got hooked instantaneously.

OK... Let me be honest, the series did not give me Euphoric phase like Tanhaiyaan... and in that difference, I realised that actually Gul knows how to make best use of your talent... she builds her series/serial story around you and you alone... because she knows that you can carry it single handed to success with your brilliant acting.

TGIDF used your popularity hugely in their marketing and ads; but the actual series did not make a justice with your character... it was advertised as a guy who follows his heart... and yes, if you had left military service to open a "Dhaba"😆, we would have loved seeing you in kitchen doing things and enjoying it.😉. Would bring back memories of that absolutely lovable Arnav in Kitchen making jalebis. 😉... somehow the justification behind your character, the story or scenes around your change were totally missing.

Is that why you said in one of the interviews" The character I play is a loser... something I am good at playing in real life, too."

Why Buddy? Why make that statement? 😲 Do you realise that myself and all other Barun pankhis watched the series for you and you alone... and you did not disappoint us... you were brilliant in the underplayed act...your eyes had the same magic to capture our soul !!!

And you are not a loser, Barun! You are an artist! A true artist!

Whatever troll you might have received when you chose to quit IPK1, but it was your own choice...the right choice, baby! You are not the kind of guy who can act in same ghisa pita series going on for years and years... acting is not a job you do from morning to evening... it's your passion, your soul!! And that's why your serial/ movie/series choices in your career are so diverse. Between MAMR and THMS the characters are so vastly different...In IPK you were the angry hero and in tanhaiyaan, you were the romantic flirt... one thing you always make sure is that we, your forever fans, will never get an experience OK, I have seen him like this before.😊

And that's so important... That's the belief, the confidence you have in your own self that you don't stick to one and only type of character and become a stereotype... though your character portrayal of Arnav; itself could have made you a regular TV series guy making one after the other Arnavs all the time...many bollywood stars do that! Yet, you choose to be a diverse actor and thus you become star in our hearts!😳

And how can you be a loser in real life? You have the love of your life in your life... Pashmeen must be understanding your ways and supporting you completely... so who cares about what the world says?

We miss you!! Miss you, hugely!!! yet, we'll have to learn to be patient and learn to wait patiently through your screen presence gaps.

😊Now waiting for your next series...Asura... a psychological thriller, you said! Will be pure pleasure watching you in a new avatar.

This letter will never reach you; but I want cosmic waves to carry my feelings to you.

Article shared by Sonya on twitter... a beautiful interview of Barun! This man makes us all fall in love with him more and more!

But I am tired of people pulling him down asking him IPKKND3 as failure. I admire his patience with it. But give him a break , yaar! And come on! The story had potential; he and Shivani did great piece of acting. So fine TRP, Bashers and SP decided to shut down the show prematurely, it's their choice, not Barun's failure in any way!

If I am offered a finite show on TV, I will definitely take it up: Barun Sobti

It took him five years to return to TV after his hit show, Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? (IPKKND), ended in 2012. His fans were excited to have him back on the small screen when the third instalment of the IPKKND series, aired in 2017. But the show ended in four months and Barun Sobti hasn't done a TV show since then. It's not that he doesn't enjoy the medium; he says he isn't comfortable with the way the TV routine works for artistes. In a tte--tte with The Times of India, the actor explains what keeps him away from television, the failure of IPKKND 3, and the kind of roles he wants to take on as an actor.

TV took you to every Indian household and you received a lot of love because of the medium. Why have you been away from it for a while?

TV is a powerful medium, as it reaches out to so many people. The only problem that I have is with the format and programming. It's impossible to do something round the clock for years and still be creative about it. I've always maintained that everything can be done well, but writing is bound to get compromised with the kind of pressure that exists on TV. The ratings force the writers to go into the same zone over and over again, and you can't write something extraordinary every day. It's untrue to creativity. I would love to see the programming change in television.

What kind of a change do you want to see?

It would be great if we start making more finite shows. That way, everyone would know what they are getting into. Anything that has a definite end is invariably precise and a more promising product, as compared to a show that has an abrupt ending. It's interesting for both the audience as well as artistes.

In one of your interviews, you said that TV gets demanding because it's exhaustive...

TV actors are always insecure and they fear getting replaced. Since there's a huge influx of actors, nobody voices their concerns or opinions. So, you keep working for long hours, which is absolutely against the labour laws. It's a bitter-sweet thing. When you become popular as the lead of a show, you are expected to shoot for 12 hours every single day! You don't have a choice. There are some artistes who throw tantrums, and say that they won't shoot for more than three hours, but I'm not that kind of a person. So, I have to kill my conscience. As humans, we need to respect everyone's time. Lekin apni industry mein sab chalta hai. Yahan aap poora din kaam karte raho, koi farak nahin padta hai kisi ko. Once people start making money from a show, then it's not about creativity anymore.

So, what made you take on Iss Pyar Ko Kya Naam Doon 3 (IPKKND3)?

I did it because it was always meant to be a finite show. It was supposed to run for six months, but it ended in four because the ratings weren't good. It sounded good on the story level. Even today, if I'm offered a finite show, I will take it up, because I would love to be one of the first actors to initiate a change in the format and programming on the small screen.

Why do you think IPKKND 3 didn't do well? Do you think people didn't accept it, because your 2011 show with Sanaya Irani had set a high benchmark?

When the first IPKKND did well, people would walk up to me and appreciate the show because of my acting. I would tell them that no one knows the kind of collective effort that goes into writing these shows. So, the whole team deserves the credit for its success. Similarly, if a show doesn't do well, the whole team needs to take the hit, too. I can't pick a reason why the show didn't do well. I think it didn't work as a package.

For many TV actors, Bollywood is a natural progression. Was getting into films your ultimate aim, too?

When I was doing television, the digital medium wasn't around and TV was becoming increasingly difficult. That's why films happened. There was no dream of getting into Bollywood as such. My journey has been a progression. I always accept or reject projects on the basis of content. As an actor, I get involved and try to do the best I can in every project I work on. And for me, it's the day's job that has to be satisfying, and not a project as a whole. If you base your satisfaction on how people like it or what the box-office collection of a project is like, then it's difficult to survive here.

3 posts came as trials in new IF.

Missing the way pics could be easily populated before. I learnt one thing early in life. One acknowledges the value of something only when one loses it. Truly, I loved the pics and edits that were posted here on IF.

When TV Actors became Avengers 9The incredible hunk with the invincibility of goodness and the power of righteousness. OK, make that the invincibility of talent and the power of giftedness in Barun’s case. Transforming into a force unbeatable is right up their alley, what say?
