This post is dedicated to the hug that Randeep baba promised will happen soon and also to Sameer's hormones that have been on fire since Naina said 'tumhe gale lagena ka mann kar raha hai'. But before we the fandom gets the ultimate SamAina hug, lets look at the symbol of back hugs given by our fave bold Naina to a very shocked Mr. Maheshwari.

From December to October, as months passed and seasons changed I was left with one constant question: why back hug?

We know Sammy boi has wanted to hug Naina for a while but never really acted on it till a few days ago. He did this for Naina's comfort and it shows the amount of respect and love he has not only for Naina but also her morals. Naina on the other hand has always been the one to close the distance between her and her Sameer. They have been a way to for her to always show her support for Sameer no matter come what may.

BACK HUG 1: 'O Meri Jaan'

The first back hug that Naina gave to Sameer marked a monumental gesture in their masoom nirdosh dosti. The behenji Naina who had slapped him for wanting to kiss her hand, broke a major physical barrier between her and Sameer. At a time when Sameer was breaking and felt abandoned by his own mother, Naina lightly placed two hands on his shoulder and rested her head on his back and whispered softly 'I Love You'.

O Meri Jaan ab nahi rehna tere bina.

Mount Abu track was a major one in their relationship. John Green wrote 'I fell in love like I fell asleep, slowly and then all at once.' For me, the time Naina and Sameer spent together before Mount Abu was the 'slowly' in their love. Especially for Sameer. It took time for them to build on their relationship, to be comfortable with each other. The situation slowly progressed from them awkwardly standing around looking at each other, not knowing what to say at Sameer's birthday to their endearing '24 ghante ki baatein'. Mount Abu defined the time that Sameer fell in love with Naina all at once. The spot where they shared their first sunset together and realised with the blooming day their blossoming thoughts for each other is where I could see Sameer's first ardently falling moment.
It became a place of comfort and solace for him. So much so that when he was breaking down this place is where his feet automatically led him to. For Naina too, that particular night had changed the way she perceived Sameer. She could see the depth and the many layers hidden in his being. After that night, she trusted Sameer enough to take him to her room. Post the Rakesh finding out disaster, she could sense the truth and depth of Sameer's immense love for her before even he could. It gave her the comfort to be able to close that physical distance. You see her eyes are closed. It's because she developed a blind faith in Sameer's love that day. She found a stability in placing the weight of her body on his.

'Mai tumhe bhi bahut manti hoon Sameer.'

There is something so heartbreaking but at the same time beautiful about this moment. Sameer was thrown into a world of darkness when his own mother refused to accept him as her son. Disowned by the very woman who had given birth to him, Sameer stood alone on the cliff of the hill where just a few nights ago he had confessed to having experienced the best time of his life. Lost in this abyss of blackness she pulled him back.
Feeling her weight on his back somehow gave him the strength to be drawn to the present moment and to the woman who he had set out to seek revenge from but unconsciously started changing for. Her trust in him and her immense love for him became expressed in this lightest of feather hugs. Barely touching for the world but for him it meant shattering his own walls. He opened up to her when he would to nobody else. This symbolised that he was already far gone in his love for her without even realising it.

'Tum kis kahaani ki pari ho, Naina?'

Of course in this moment when she helped him rise out of his grief, he thrusted himself down in a pool of guilt. Because he had hurt her: a pure, true, blessed soul. I link this moment of Sameer's tears to his tearing up at the hospital when he realised his love for her.
It's so poignant and telling in their story. Naina didn't just teach him to love but also to unleash that goodness inside of him. That golden heart he had kept hidden inside of him and refused to reveal to anyone. Afraid of it breaking. But at this moment when he broke her heart, he broke his too. Because his angel who had changed him, made him realise his own goodness. That very pari was now disappointed in him, his image in her eyes broke and he couldn't face that so he ran. But he ran still bearing that weight of her heartbreak mixed in with her love on his back. This separation brought with it the value of Naina in his life. She will forever be the angel who saved his soul and whose one small back hug brought him back to himself.

BACK HUG 2: 'Mausam Pyar Ka'

Their second back hug happened in very different circumstances. It bore witness to how far along they had come not only in their love but also in growing up and the further obstacles they would face in embracing the complexities of becoming adults with confidence.

'Rang badalta rahe..yuhi chalta rahe'

Sameer painted new colours in their life by dreaming of their future together. He brought his honewali Mrs. Maheshwari to the place he wanted their home to be. Hidden away from the eyes of the world. Their own corner of the universe. She hugged him out of sheer gratitude, overwhelmed by his love for her. Such a beautiful parallel to Mount Abu. There she hugged him when he needed the support and now she hugged him because he had promised to support her by laying down the invisible bricks for the foundation of their future together. She felt truly special and loved and the only way she could express the immensity of what she was feeling was by leaning down on his back.
Indirectly telling him that she had laid her responsibility on his shoulders now because she trusted him to take care of their love, their future that they would build together.

'Ab koi hai tumhare birthday par tumhe surprise dene ke liye'

Sameer's love for her had crossed all sane borders by this point. She became his life, his breath, his heartbeat, his humanity. He could only envision a future of his with her there. So after losing thrice and gaining her back every time, Sameer realised just how painful it is for him to stay away from her. She didn't just bring meaning to his life but also to him. In Delhi because she wasn't there, he lost his own self. He drifted to the bad side and was traumatised by daadi. But it was her who once again brought him back. Rescued him from falling to despair . She never gave up on him or their love but fought for him constantly, even against him. She made him realise that he was special and so he had to make her realise just how special she was to him. Be it by spending loads of money on buying her presents or driving them far away or by showing her their future together. He had to make her feel like the priceless queen she will always be to him.

'Aaj kuch zyada zor se lag rahi ho'

She always looks beautiful to him but especially in pink. Whenever he had seen her in pink something special happened between them. During Pooja di's shaadi track when he first saw her in pink (tilak ceremony) her dress tore. She had started unknowingly developed faith in him which is why she gave him the safety pin. Deep down she knew that Sameer would always respect her. After he had secured her dress, he earned immense respect in Naina's heart. Then at Sangeet, Naina finally wore the bangles he had given her. Sameer's redemption was complete, Naina had finally become his again. The first time they had said I love you to each other, she was wearing a similar pink dress. Naina wearing pink always symbolised a deeper progression for their love. So when she leaned on him, dressed in the pink dress he had given her, it meant she was placing the weight of their love on his shoulders.
Even though Sameer wore the red shirt which the fandom came to associate with Mount Abu seperation, Naina wearing the pink dress in this back hug represented that they would get through this and she would come back to him once again. Sameer would be thrown into darkness and emptiness once again but this time he would fight for her because she was his through and through. And fight he did not just with Sharad but also with Chachaji to convince him of the purity of their love. She had lost confidence but Sameer never did in her, their love and their future together.

BACK HUG 3: 'Baahon ke darmiyaan'

Now we come to the back hug that burned the entire fandom. Encasing a wholly different time altogether. They are stable, jubilant and united. The hug in this episode arose purely out of their desire and love for each other. Their heartbeats increasing as they gazed into each other's eyes, the desire to feel each other's presence was stronger than ever before.

'Nazar milne se shuru hoti thi kahani pyaar ki'

And its only apt that they play the line which started this whole saga. The first time they saw each other, they were in almost the same position as the one above. Arms spread out like ready to embrace, their eyes locked as they gazed deeply at each other. While Naina fell in love at first sight, Sameer was definitely attracted to her as well which is why he turned back thrice to catch glimpses of her. His soul knew before his heart did that she was the one. The one who he would come to love with a burning passion, who would change him and for whom he would be ready to change this world one crying goddess idol at a time.
As he stood that day in Red Rose causing the ground to tremble for Naina, he was acting upon that unconscious wish from long ago. A wish he had first voiced when he placed that bet which would drive them closer but also apart. One that he voiced multiple times in his voiceovers. Their love story started with an accidental almost hug and has now progressed to Sameer (and the fandom) actively voicing his wish for a proper hug.

'I love you, Sameer'

She voiced that she wanted to hug him: a slip of tongue that betrayed the shy gal's innermost desires. He who had once been slapped by her for crossing barriers was elated at his wish coming true. She was overcome by his love for her and the respect with which he treasured her name, moved her to evoke this simple wish. Because its all she could do, voice what she knew they both wanted but never gave into. But being that close to him, she remembered the restrictions holding her: chachaji's promise and thaanedaar's responsibility and her own shyness came in. Letting her hand stroke his arm down, she moved past him but back tracked. How could she leave her love disappointed. She could never see his failures; even if its his failure to embrace her. So she once again leaned onto him whispering the words he heard all the time but would never get tired of hearing. Her soft gesture reassured him of their desires mingling, that she too wanted what he did. Their happy ecstatic faces showed that now Sameer's masculine and broad shoulders could support her, bear her happily as she too would support him with the weight of her presence for eternity.

'We love you too!'

Their beautiful blissful moment was just coming to when they were separated by the gang's intrusion. But this separation was heartwarming; khatti meethi like Naina's pyaar ki daant had been. The gang shouting and laughing celebrated the happiness of the couple with them. Because the two of them weren't alone in this story anymore. They had made strong friends along their journey. Friends who now became an extended family. A family which would now fight any obstacles with the couple even if its as small as sticking to the wall like a lizard on their midnight romance excursion. Through thick and thin they would be surrounded by their family. Because great love stories are never made by just two people, they are made with the witnesses who fight and support them through trials and tribulations. Sameer's destiny had bought him to PVKM alone and sad. And through the bet he realised who his true friends were. Naina made Sameer realise the truest bonds be it with her family or his own friends. She was teaching him even when she was upset from him. Sameer too brought with him her pyaare 'bhabhi ki devars'. Like she helped him become a man, he was the ultimate 'queen maker' who would help her become the woman she is meant to be; his confident temptress, his 'tope' Naina, his 'Malaik-e-husna' .Their love would witness more obstacles to come because life is a game of ups and downs. But they would be each other's support to lean on and be leaned upon. Hopefully in the near future our blushing Mr. Maheshwari would stop blushing and lean on his shy Mrs. Maheshwari and give her a back hug too.
With this Asanskari khayal I leave this post to you dear fam.
Bundles of love to all YUDKBHians,
SIMS <3

Hi Sims,
What a wonderful post!!
You have portrayed the differences and mental condition of each hug perfectly. Each hug shows the growth of their relation.

First Hug - Agree with you completely. If Naina was not there during Sameer's break down at Mount Abu then it is sure that he will never be the same Sameer. In such a situation even Nanu may also have failed to bring him back from that dark abyss of his mother's rejection. It was Naina's love only made Sameer what he is today. Before that he never had the courage to face any problem as he always felt lonely. But after that hug in Mount Abu he felt as someone is there who loves him for who he is, not for his good looks, not for his money but for him with his broken, trouble and rude character.

Second Hug - Hats off to the way how you explained the symbolism of pink dress that she is wearing and the red shirt of his. Agree to the way how their relationship have grown by this time. Naina has become Sameer's each and everything, his life, breath and the main reason for his existence itself.

Third Hug - By this time both of them have become one soul and two bodies. Their physical desires are flying high. Sameer started showing it but still taking consideration of Naina and her comfortability. You have made a very nice comparison of their first meet with almost hug to the way how he stretched his arms to hug Naina now.

I loved your analysis very much. It is giving me an entire new perspective of those very special moments of Samaina. They are redefining the purity, the meaning and the essence of love which is very much less in today's world.

Thank you so much for your comment! I am glad it made you active on this forum. I have always seen Sameer very minutely reacting to her back hugs like they make a huge difference ( kudos to Randeep's acting for bringing this out).
