Disclaimer- No hate please, refrain from making comments if it is not understood well. I just want to have a discussion on this subject with those willing to have it.
SO, finally I figured out the psychological traits of each character in the show from how they have behaved till date. Each character is a mix of multiple traits which are more prevalent in one type of disorder & less prevalent/absent in other. Doesn't make them a mental patient but situation like this actually demands a psychiatric consultation for each of them.
I may be grossly wrong on this. So, actual psychologists in the forum or those with the knowledge of the field may point that out.
1. Rajdeep-
- Antisocial- Acts without considering. He follows social rules only when self-serving. Like him trying to help Mauli or trying to get Kunal aboard for the hospital or kiss Nandini in public in front of a client to attract a doctor for his hospital. Absolutely no regards for rights of other people & often tend to violate their rights.
- Sadistic- Since he enjoys seeing people in pain- physical specifically & finds pleasure in abusing others.
- Narcissist- Classic- since he lacks empathy; communal- since he seeks public validation by show-off even if that has no substance; malignant- non-guilty of every wrong he does; covert- always blaming the world & tend to victimize himself at times. He feels too entitled for everything- beauty, success, achievement & what not. Wants to show himself as charming & attractive who should get everything on a platter.
- Paranoid- Always feels righteous & persecuted at the same time.
- Psychopath/Sociopath- Solely on grounds of history full of violent streaks & sexual offences against women in general, especially Nandini and no guilt for that. Actually he feels good about doing it. But since makers haven't shown if Rajdeep was born like that which will make him a psychopath or he picked up these traits while growing up which makes him a sociopath. (Since it's said that psychopaths are born & sociopaths are made).
2. Kunal-
- Passive-aggressive- Hardly communicates when there is something problematic to discuss. Moody, sullen & withdrawn on alternate times.
- Histrionic- he seeks others attention constantly, be it at home in initial episodes or with Nandini.
- Depressive- At this point where he is pessimist, guilty & valueless.
- Narcissist- During the entire affair as he felt entitled to have an affair. He didn't show guilt or empathy to Mauli at all on whom he was cheating. It was more of malignant narcissism in that time being. However, he doesn't portray himself as a victim at present that saves him from being a covert.
3. Mauli-
- Obsessive-compulsive- she is conscientious, respectful who likes to live by regulations & that makes her devoted, reliable, efficient & productive.
- Depressive- During the breakdown scene where she felt utterly helpless, valueless, guilty, discouraged & pessimist for the break of her marriage & for trusting & helping out Kunal & Nandini.
- Empath- Exhibits a remarkable level of empathy for those in need.
4. Nandini- the most controversial character in the show.
- Dependent- she is submissive, helpless & immature. She sees herself as weak & fragile who always seeks assurance from a stronger figure. They feel the need to be taken care of by someone & fear abandonment by people they care about as is the case of Nandini at present.
- Depressive- Most of the times present herself as vulnerable & abandoned. This is something that will push her to the edge of being suicidal & all the more anxious & vulnerable. She will be considering herself worthy of contempt & criticism only. This could also be seen in her suicidal, fatalist, self-harm tendencies When she tried to commit suicide after the Chaddha fiasco in Mauli's party. Her admission that she is shameless was a defining moment of it. Again a sequence where she is hysterical and dead anxious after society ladies decide to throw hee out.
- Avoidant- Always anxious & tensed in social circles as she fears strong rejection. Very sensitive about what others think about them. Sees herself as inept, inferior, helpless & self-hesitant always.
- Borderline- Unstable & unpredictable. Strongly fear isolation & abandonment. She either sees herself as all-good or all-bad. Nothing in between. Her moods fluctuates very rapidly. For Rajdeep, she may turn strong but the very next moment one may see her at the weakest.
- Schizotypal- Since she easily blurs the lines of fantasy & reality. And thus comes out to be eccentric, bizzare, absent-minded & self-estranged. As if she has no idea of what she is doing & why she is doing it as has been pretty evident from her recent actions. It is different from schizoid- as these are the ones who resent human company & prefer to live in isolation or alone.
- Covert narcissist- Feels deep need for admiration & has heightened sense of entitlement because of the abuse she suffered in her past marriage. Hercomplete disregard for Mauli's feelings in the affair defined her lack of empathy for her. And still not owning up or realizing what her actions have done adds to it. This is one of the thing that also helps her stand against Rajdeep too since the abuse has left her with reduced empathy that works absolutely well against Rajdeep.
Nandini's constant shivering and crying at the drop of hat comes from her multiple personality disorders that have rendered her being in constant state of anxiety, restlessness, fear, state of feeling valueless. The whole mess will add more to it to push her to the threshold. All of traits disorder are heavily overlapping each other which present a severe case who needs psychiatric help.
5. Mauli's Mom-
- Sadistic- Since she finds pleasure in humiliating, abusing or dominating others emotionally & mentally.
- Passive- aggressive- Terrible habit of undermining other's goals & achievements as seen with her equation with Mauli. Highly resentful & skeptical of everything women do.
- High-end Narcissist
- Paranoid
As I said, every character in the show needs psychiatric consultation especially Nandini, Kunal & Mauli since this phase is disturbing & highly confusing for the three of them. Rajdeep is a criminal who needs to be shown as a villain with no chance of improving in future, so no point of providing that help to him anyway.
Every human being has certain psychological restraints in their life & that varies from minimalist to severe at times. Most of us might not even have any of the traits which places us in list of personality disorder but as an individual who loves to understand people's behavior & actions on the basis of their psyche, I could draw this conclusion only. And I may be wrong in that.
This show could have nicely explored mental issues but of course writers aren't sophisticated enough to deal with this subject at all.
P.S- Don't pay attention to the order of characters' names appearing. Just typed as it came onto my mind. Psychology fascinates me, so just thought to share my observations about the characters here since these are close to real characters one can meet.
