Lashy Sahiba, civil servants here have a fixed number of annual leave that they are entitled to depending on their years of service. Employers must make sure that the said leave is taken ( a minimum number is set ) while the rest of the unused leave can be accumulated for monetary compensation when they retire.

13 weeks off- wow! Teachers here enjoy ten weeks of school holidays but are allowed 10 days of special leave to take care of personal matters apart from sick leave.

I guess it'd amount to the same then... of course, during this time off it's not like the teachers don't take some of their work home... or at least prepare for the upcoming terms! 😊

So on a worker's welfare spectrum, India would be on one end and Europe on the other with Malaysia in the middle.😃

The Scandanavian countries are the most 'Union' and 'Labour laws' oriented.

Maternity leave runs as long as 2 years! 😉 Even in the US it's strictly 3 months in most companies! In the UK we get a year maternity leave (6 months paid + 6 months unpaid)

There is no close shop time imposed and eateries /coffee shops and restaurants here open as early as 6 a.m. Some even operate 24 hours. 😊

Cafes, of course, open very early to cater to the office crowds... but they'd close early too...

any shop that had extended opening hours will HAVE to have their employees on a shift system...

Lashy Sahiba, agree with you about the welfare of employees in certain countries. I think China is quite notorious for exploitation of human labour and inhumane working conditions.
