Arbaaz Khan confesses to IPL betting, say he's been doing it for 6 years

Bollywood actor-producer Arbaaz Khan has reportedly confessed to his involvement in an IPL betting racket. Khan's name cropped up during a probe involving a bookie, Sonu Jalan, who was arrested on Tuesday. Jalan is said to run an international gambling operation and reportedly has connections with fugitive don Dawood Ibrahim.
Khan was being questioned over his connection with Jalan by the Thane anti-extortion cell since yesterday.
At the police station, Khan was made to sit face-to-face with Jalan, who arrested earlier in the case.

The AEC busted the racket on May 15 with the arrest of four people in Mumbai, including Jalan, who is believed to be one of the top bookies of the country, officials have said.
During the investigation, a "connection" between Jalan and Arbaaz was established, said Pradeep Sharma, Senior Inspector and head of the AEC. The two are said to have known each other for over five years.
Khan, the police said, placed bets during one of the past IPL seasons through Jalan. In those days, Jalan was working with a big bookie who went by the name Junior Calcutta. Subsequently, too there was a huge transaction between Jalan and Khan. Apparently, Khan was blackmailed into paying crores, the threat being that his gambling habit would be exposed.

Jalan, in his police statement, has mentioned several prominent names who bet huge amounts on certain IPL teams and players. Police are in possession of a diary that has names of several prominent people.

The 41-year-old kingpin is a notorious bookie and blackmailer. He was the kingpin of the 2013 IPL betting racket in which former cricketer S Sreesanth emerged as the top accused. Jalan has links in Pakistan, Gulf and several European countries. His racket has a turnover of Rs 5000 crore. Jalan, it is believed, dragged Khan into the betting racket and the actor paid him over Rs 3 crore. Khan was being blackmailed, the police said.

He said Jalan's statement corroborated with handwritten notes in his personal diary, which is now in possession of the the police. A line holding machine used by Sonu was also seized. Also, the name of a Pakistani politician has come to the fore, an angle the police are probing.
