HBO | The Herald caught up with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Director David Yates, who's recently "been in a whirl of meetings" with WB executives about the film. Yates said, "I'm out here to work on the screenplay with the writer and have a little chat with the people at the studio about how we are doing and what we are planning. Now, I'm going to New York to meet a cameraman I'm quite interested in. I'll be back in the UK next week. It's normally not as mad as this. "David Heyman called me and asked if I'd be interested, he had been following the work I'd been doing over the years. I love the books. So, I read the fifth one and I thought that there was some great stuff. Stuff about celebrating being different, that's what the fifth book did for me. I'm having a fantastic time just as we're starting out." Yates also discussed his recent film The Girl in the Cafe, which revolves around the issue of extreme poverty in Africa, saying, "When Kelly does her big speech about a child dying every three seconds, that was very moving. Without being pompous, it felt like we were doing something worthwhile." And in another interview with HBO: "It would be lovely if people came away and felt empowered in some small way to do something about this issue." |
