Because she was in love with that loser Dharmendra. Every time her mom tried setting her up with someone who was single Dharam used to come and ruin things. He did not want to divorce his wife but did not want to give up Hema either. Finally I think Hema gave him an ultimatum which is when instead of doing the honorable thing and divorcing his wife he converted to Islam and gave Hema what she was nagging him about - a marriage certificate. He was an absent husband and an absent father. Hema almost raised those girls single handedly. He would only come once or twice a week. Refused to launch Esha and even now is seen with Hema only when he wants votes. Hema was a fool and got a totally raw deal. She should have listened to her mom. I know she is at fault for having a relationship with a married man but so was he. She is the only one who got punished though
