Potey ki peshi
"This is Avantika Gupta, Commercial Lending, Pacific Trust she said in a slightly exasperated tone
"Looks like you woke up on the wrong side of the bed said a husky smooth male voice
"I actually slept on my sofa last night Avantika responded silkily
"That must be it then he rallied
"How can I help you?
"Just making sure you got the notice that was delivered by the courier he said bluntly
"Mujhe mili notice but I am sorry I cannot come to the court based on some summons
"Its not SOME summons, its been signed by the honorable judge Mrs Mukta Rai he was not amused
"I saw that, but jinhoney, sorry jinki taraf se bheja gaya hai aap unko keh dein, mera aana mushkil hai I am attending a 3 day workshop on financial statement analysis. I wrote that when I decline the letter
"Aapki marzi Mrs Gupta. I can tell the judge to decide on the case since you are going to be a now show
"I AM not a no show. CHANDAN'S DAD'S FAMILY was a no show Avantika raised her voice
"You better watch what you are saying Mrs Gupta. You have no clue what happened Harit raised his voice at the other end
"You have my name wrong. I am not MRS GUPTA. Your letter stated MISS Avantika nailed him
There was silence at the other end
She assumed he was embarrassed
"You guys used every trick in the book to humiliate and emotionally torture my friend. Now you want her son so you can do the same to him
"For you its just a FRIEND, for me it was my BROTHER Harit's voice lowered to a guttural groan
"I cannot be at the court I am sorry Aavantika spoke after a longish pause
"Thank you for letting me know. That's all I wanted to hear
He hung up abruptly
Just as she began to ask
"Don't think you can use the law to your ...
She called her mother
"Ma unke ghar pe kisi se pone aaya mujhe forcing me to go to court
"TEEKU hum tumhe pehle bhi bataye diye rahe beta, this is spiraling out of control her mother agonized
"Ma this is so unfair. Chandan ki kya galti hai. Who un logon ko jaanta bhi nahi hai. Court kachehri ke chakkar katwayenge aur mujhse chheen lenge. Uske baad?
"Beta who tumhe chinta karne ki zaroorat nahi
"MAAA aap kaise keh sakti hain aise baat?
"Beta don't be overdramatic, aap khud socho. Srishti unfortunately is gone, so is Hriday. I am proud you are so caring and affectionate and loving towards Chandan, BUT... kab taq? You have a life too. Saalon ho gaye is baat ko, baat wahin ki wahin hai Himani lamented
Garima Sood her boss peeked into her cube "When u get off your call can u come see me please?
Avantika pretended she was on the phone with a borrower
"Painful... no legitimate documents she said blushing self consciously
"Welcome to our world... what can I say Garima bought it
"Ma humne aapko ek delinquent borrower bana diya Tiku giggled
"Aur tumne apne aap ko Ma Himani hung up sighing despondently.
Harit went up the stairs to find his father.
"Hamey nahi lagta who aayengi peshi mein he said bluntly
His Dad sat down weakly
"Babuji aap please sambhaalen apne aap ko he said gruffly
He was tall with thick wavy hair, he wore black trousers and a white shirt as if he was just about ready to head to court himself
The room he was in looked very much like a barrister's chamber with 10s of thousands of books lining the wall
Pictures of Shyamsunder Vaidya shaking hands with various dignitaries plastered everywhere
Embedded within was pictures of Harit Vaidya in ceremonial lawyer attire, holding a scroll in his hands, a pic together of father and son
"Ma ko kaha aapne?
"Nahi, abhi nahi
"Kuch to ladies ka karyakram hai aaj haveli mein shaayad vyast hain he mumbled
Harit nodded and peeked out the window at the expansive lawns, acres of it in front of the 200 year old pristine white pillar-ed haveli
"Hamara case hai aaj 2 baje, hum aapse baad mein baat karte hain
"Mil aayen jaakar Chandan se? Shyamsundar urged his son
"Babuji abhi nahi, agar who pesh nahi huin agle hafte to hum unke ghar jaakar Chandan ko hamesha ke liye yahan le aayenge he said smugly
Leaving his Dad staring after him as he dove three steps at a time going down the grand staircase
His mother was talking o two women at the foot of the stairs
"Hareee... jaldi mein hain beta?
"Jee Ma case hai do baje he said and went out in the scalding hot Bareilly sunshine
