Bollywood singers get typecast quite a lot and don't often venture out of their comfort zones.

When they do, sometimes they end up giving major hits.

An example of this is Kajra Re by Alisha in Bunty Aur Babli. Her IndiPop albums had a western touch, so she was the last person who I thought would sing a song with a strong Indian/desi touch!

Another example is that of Alka Yagnik in Koi Jaye To Le Aaye in Ghatak. She used to sing very sweet romantic songs, so this was a surprise to me!

Even before Alisha and Alka, Lata Mangeshkar broke her 'no item songs' rule by singing Aa Jane Ja in Inteqam, and it was quite a refreshing change!

I'm surprised that she agreed to sing it. 😕
