My two cents after having watched the first two episodes of KA.
Episode 1
A rebellious teenager is banished from school to reach her grandmother's care to slowly rebuild her life. Eylul shows all the characteristics of a ADHD - Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Being a product of dysfunctional family, she quickly absorbs all the love showered by her granny.Leads meeting at the marketplace where she tricks into stealing the CD is very fluent to introduce them mutually. Her kick in the gut shows the unharnessed energy levels which can bring down an fully grown adult male.!!
A drama unfolds as High School Musical with more noise than music setting the context for the characters their conflicts and convictions. As per Van Der Waal's bonding definition, Bahar and Eylul bonding was dependent of the forces of attraction towards Ali. Esma covalently bonded with Eylul over badger babes.!!!
GulAyse provides the Value Added Services (VAS) like a service provider in being a granny, crusader of girl child empowerment, career planner and finally a match maker?;-)
Ali nurtures the vulnerable Eylul from further withering away. Isn't September a fall month? Very clever usage of the words because Elyul is always out of season- different from the girls of her age.
Ali's disposition is rich kid wannabe Fakir triggers many questions to viewers such as why did he discontinue( Quit) his profession, stay away from his father in a less known place? Does he already know that Bahar has a connection beyond the school? Was his dad committed to Ziyanur due to Ali's biological parents death, hence being adopted?
Gokhan's body language changes from being a mentor to a charming young man without much effort.
The cycle rides to school is very refreshing. It reminds me of very similar scenes in Dear Zindagi movie
Eylul breaks from her cocoon to respond to the care and attention from team AA - (Gul)Ayse & Ali to score an A+ grade.
The present, past and future of the drama is set when Eylul wants emulate her role model Ali to become a doctor and Ali dons the doctor avatar impromptu to save a life.
The viral news hits the incubated infatuation (careful not to call it love) for Ali, breaks the new found optimism/faith for Eylul and ebbs the competition in Bahar resulting in cyclone EYLUL. The situation is manifested with granny's untimely death due to medical negligence which was either pre-meditated or just pure arrogance where value for a life is less than a mosquito? Is that Dr.Sinan wanted to organ harvest from GulAyse?
The chaos theory ends with Ali resigning to his job, Bahar's blasphemous complaint withdrawn and Eylul going back to her shell.
The most important scene were the ones in jail when Ali comes to meet Eylul. She says their relationship is weird and different. Ali has realized his affections, whereas Eylul is still unable to understand the mixed signals from within. Perhaps for her, the most important things remain to her granny's happiness. And will did we hear that Ali-septic ointment is out of stock already ;-)
Aaashi(whiterose29) shares as "I loved the dialogue that she said to her granny, something like "I'm not a bad person, I just don't know the difference between good & bad!" That perfectly summed up her character for me."
What worked for me in spite of this being recreated version of a K-drama is that
- Strong acting and scenarios with non-linear narration
- Gokhan...has really pulled me into watching it.
- title track...easy breezy.!!
Things which could have been better
- Change of styling for leads - post and pre time leaps.
- Didn't kindle exist 5 years ago...Ali reading so many books.
- Eylul need not get into fist fight for every provoke- needless to say her BG score can be "Everybody was kung-fu fighting, Those cats were fast as lightning...". Hmm
- Okyu looks anorexic, but those big eyes are her USP.
Episode 2
The helicopter shots of the night sky with city skyline reminds me of Gotham city and another Dark Knight!!. The mafia giving into a woman to treat him, the fireman being injured shows the Eylul has skills to manage like Ms.know it All(Ali). ;-) The entanglement of Bahar continues with 2 or more(?) sidekicks as interns. So many supporting characters to count in..Alp, Samat, one more, Oguz aka Dr.Robot, I just hope each character has an arc to the story rather than wasted as props at the hospital.
The re-entry of Ali was again very charming. His first few lines to Eylul was direct and confident.(I was giggling silly watching them). While the senior and junior doctors work in teams to attend their cases, Bahar chooses to be a spectator and gossips the marital status of Ali. While the day progresses, the narration provides glimpses of Selim and Ali's acquaintances. But are they classmates, ready for bromance or is there more to meet the eye?
Eylul's godfather is Selim. Why did Ali give the local guardian privileges to Selim?
The conflicts of business interests and its mortgages is brought with senior citizens who steer their directions, which might hit or miss their kin. Ali being attacked by a fired employee, the Ms.Kung-fu jumping instinctively to save him are first signs of symbiosis.
Internal training ends with Ms.Kungfu getting another A+ with Bahar left with A-!!
Father and son enjoying their Kofta street food is very endearing, and derives the equation they share. The day ends with another rain scene, which looks like a pattern to establish their milestones?
Esma is brings in the spunk and sentiment in the life of lonely girl on the planet Please be the cupid to trigger their love hormone.
Dr.Sinan realizes that Eylul is one their staff (to bring back the focus of retribution in Ms.Kungfu or Dr.Sinan pause to know if Eylul's house coat being whiter than his like Rin ki Safedi? ) and Ms.Bitch is busy with her L-Lies.
That last few minutes of the boxing ring was exuding the sexual tension between the two. Too Hawt to handle.
My dedication to the closing scene of this episode for Ali.
You know, I've been taking some time
And I've been keeping to myself (self)
I had my eyes up on the prize
Ain't watching anybody else
But your love, it hit me hard, girl
Yeah, you're bad for my health
I love the cards, that I've been dealt
Do you feel the same as well?
