CHAPTER 8

Shaurya was demented with worry. Was I wrong to commit myself to Mehek? Does she deserve an unstable situation?, he questioned himself. He wished she wouldn't recall last night owing to her drunken stupor, . He was not prepared to face her and left her alone. He pulled key from his pocked but realised that his apartment was unlocked. He found Vicky in the hall,resting on sofa with a grave expression. "Where were you whole night Bhai? I was worried for you", he told. Shaurya smiled a bit at the role reversal. "I was out with Mehek. I went to apologize about yesterday morning and we had a small tiff". "So you went an extra mile to make her feel better. Good. Impressive. I want to meet her, this mysterious special girl who has casted her spell on my brother", Vicky told him. "We are trying to figure out things, Vicky. So till then...", Shaurya couldn't continue. Something about Vicky tipped him off. He was not in his jovial mood.

Shaurya caught the beer can which Vicky threw at him. "You know Bhai, few days back Abhay told me that you are a one woman man. I corrected him coz I thought Mr. Shaurya Khanna has moved on. Even when he hinted that Maya Bhabhi is in here, I never doubted you. Like a fool I was worried that she may ruin your chances with Mehek", he mocked himself. "Vicky, mera bhai", Shaurya tried to say. "Save it, Bhai. You played me from the beginning", Vicky was hurt. "Vicky, I am sorry. I was afraid... that you will...", Shaurya tried to tell but he cut him. "You didn't trust me , Bhai. I couldn't believe my eyes when last night I saw you with her. Don't we, your family, your own blood mean anything for you", tears rolled down Vicky's eyes burning his brother. "Aap ke liye sirf Maya hi sab kuch hain. Whether you address her as Mehek or Maya, only she matters", he accused Shaurya."Vicky,I can explain", Shaurya tried his best. "Then please explain. Look into my eyes and tell me that Mehek and Maya are not the same. Can you?", he challenged him. Shaurya shook his head and sat down defeated.

Nicky , an attractive girl in Vicky's group was trying her best to capture Shaurya's attention. In all probability, Vicky had commissioned her to convince his Bhai to join them the trip. "Shaurya, I want to show you some snaps which our crew took there. It's an awesome place.You will surely like it", she said swiping through pics in her iPad. Shaurya wasn't giving much attention until he caught sight of her, Maya. Discreetly he asked Nicky to send those pics to him. He checked them repeatedly, until he was absolutely sure. Later using his sleuths he traced her whereabouts. Vicky and Ma were happy when he agreed to accompany Vicky's band. Nobody suspected his intentions.

Shaurya sounded tired when he talked again,"I can't lie to you anymore, Vicky. Mehek and Maya are same. I came here with you just to catch glimpse of her. My visit to pub that night was intentional with motive to meet Maya. But trust me I never wanted all these complicated equations. I was shocked when I met her that night. It was like meeting a completely different person, with face of my Maya. I was deeply hurt on realizing that she didn't even remember my name. Still I couldn't leave her alone in that hell hole. I bought her here just for sake of her safety but that night when she got intimate with me I couldn't push her away. I was weak and succumbed to temptations. I hated her immensely next morning, when she still failed to acknowledge me or my feelings. It dawned to me that my Maya was long gone. The girl who stood before me was Mehek. May be she still possesed Maya's body but she was nothing I loved or adored in my Maya. Mehek was selfish, wild and emotionless. Mehek never tried to find the reason behind her situations, she just knew to be angry and to punish. As she bid farewell to me, I understood how meaningless and stupid were my intentions to seek her out again. I decided get on with my life and head back. However destiny played its part and got us back together". Shaurya explained her accident and her proposal of being FwBs. "My heart skipped a beat when she recognized me at hospital. However it was not Maya who recognised me but Mehek. She playfully addressed me as Husband, oblivious of the fact that I was indeed her husband. I slowly started seeing glimpses of Maya in her next morning. Her concern, her care and her understanding of a stranger's pain and heart break. I still don't know Vicky why I agreed to her ridiculous idea of being in a physical relationship without commitment. May be I wanted to help her under my protection or I hoped her to recall everything eventually or was it just my lust, I don't know', he covered his face unable to meet Vicky's eyes. Vicky was sympathetic as his anger had melted away. He kept his hand on Shaurya's shoulder to console him. "Did any good come out of it, Bhai? ", he asked earnestly. "Yes , it did. Few days back Mehek told me about that unfortunate incident. Maya never trusted to share her past with me but Mehek did. It was painful for both of us. While she narrated it all, I came to know that she doesn't know anything about her marriage or about her life as Maya. For reasons best known to them, her parents chose not to tell her anything. She still believes she was in coma and woke up after many months. She is innocent, Vicky. Mehek is righteous and brave so I am sure if she knew, she would have atleast wrote to me or contacted me either for apologizing or explaining herself".

"Really Bhai?', you still believe she is innocent. She is playing with you.Your initial impression was perfectly true. She is a selfish,cruel woman who cares for none. If she never knew about her marriage or Maya, then why did she sign these divorce papers as Maya", Vicky opened his jacket and threw legal documents on the teapoy. "I agree she may not be aware that you are her husband. She is too smart to stay near you if she had known. But she knows about her marriage and her life during those days. Else why would she accept these papers? She is a bloody liar and cheat, Bhai. I used to respect my Bhabhi but I am sorry to say that she is one self-centered wicked witch", Vicky was furious. With trembling hands, Shaurya picked up the papers to check signatures. Indeed, it was her signatures on them. Why did you hurt me again?, he whimpered. Coz you let her, his mind accused him cruelly.

Mehek was at her home. She was humming something while cooking with her mother. She was happy coz Shaurya had accepted their relationship and promised to commit to her. Though he was not there when she woke up, the flowers he gifted and message on the card captured her heart. When she knew that her father was out of town and she rushed straight home as she wanted to tell her mother about Shaurya. Meera was so happy to have her back. Cooking was their passion and after many days they cooked together.. Mehek was preparing stage to break the news to Meera when the doorbell rang. Mehek cringed thinking it might be her Dad and she stayed back in kitchen. But she was surprised on hearing Shaurya's voice.

"Namaste, Sasumom. I am here to meet your daughter", Meera was astonished at his boldness. She never knew Shaurya was in town. She quickly recovered but before she could block him, he moved inside. "Beta, please leave", she begged him. "Where is she? Call her, Mom", he paid no attention to Meera's pleads. Mehek came to hall hearing him and was astonised to see that Shaurya and Meera knew eachother. "There she is. My dear Maya... Pardon me..Mehek", he greeted her dramatically. Mehek was bewildered and wondered whether he was drunk . "I told you last night itself Mehek, given you choose to enter my life, then I will never let you leave me AGAIN. These things will never keep us apart", he tore legal papers and threw it at her. "Shaurya , I don't understand. What are these?", Mehek was utterly confused. "These are divorce papers which you, MAYA signed to get rid of her husband, ME. Unfortunately its too late to now as I am in no mood to leave you", he explained. Before any of them could speak, Yash Sharma was at door with Vicky behind him. "Wow, my pujya Sasurji is here. Ask him the rest of the story. It was he who did your kanyadaan and it is his right to explain the whole mess to you. Isn't it , Dad?", he asked sarcastically to a visibly shattered father. "Anyways this is your family matter and I chose not to interfere. I just need my wife back. So Mehek, in 2 days I need you back with me or else I will take legal action against you and your parents", he left with Vicky.

As Shaurya sat tired in the passenger seat, Vicky drove him away. Once they reached safe distance, Vicky stopped the car and they sat in silence. He didn't question Shaurya yet he heard his brother's voice, "I want revenge Vicky. I need to hurt them as badly as they hurt me, especially HER".

PRECAP : She ran to her father who fell down clutching his chest. "Yash, what happened to you?", Meera turned and wailed. "Dad, Dad", even with her bitterness Mehek was concerned for her father. "I am sorry, my child. Please forgive me, beta. Just remember, I always loved you", Yash told her before closing his eyes.
