D side might be an issue yes S is very close with them but when it comes to marriage it may not be straightforward not only caste but the fact that S is an actress. They would want him to get married to a girl of their choice, someone belonging to their caste obviously and from a non-filmy background but then again as Meenu said D doesn't give a damn to all these things if he wants something he's sure of, he'll find all means and ways to get it.
So maybe he's trying to convince his family to accept S, once they have given their nod he might make it official or they have already accepted S but D wants to take it easy and settle down after a year or two... we don't know. Only time will tell.
